Post-Game Talk: Can we leave Stu in a California Closet?

I get everyone is so sick of the Skinner show, I am as well, but the team in front of him has stunk and been incredibly undisciplined.

Skinner sucks, but the team is making him look horrible. No goalie could have looked good with the free looks we are giving up, the middle is just open. Picks came in and got got on the first shot. There is only one team in the playoffs making these mistakes multiple times a game, and until that changes nothing else matters.

It drives me crazy when people can't recognize or for some reason get offended when both sides of the equation are highlighted. Both things can and are true - Skinner is a joke, but the play from our purported two best D men that are dressed in Nurse and Bouchard have been abysmal to the point where they should be personally embarrassed.

If we had a different goalie I think we come home with a split. Maybe would have come away with a 4-3 type win in Game 1. No goalie is making up for the disgrace in front of him in Game 2.

People like Gregor are stupid and wrong to try and absolve the goaltending because of the play around him, but at the same time he's right that our play defensively has been the worst in the playoffs by significant margin. I don't know if we come out of a 2 game set against any opponent in these playoffs not down 2-0. We're the only team that seems to have difficulty realizing we need to compete.

It’s not just our goaltending or our defensive play it’s literally everything. There is not one single aspect of hockey that this team is doing well with right now. 5 on 5 we’ve sucked gift wrapping goals left and right, PP has been awful I want to say maybe one good scoring chance so far? PK has been worse we have no answer to their 5 forward unit. Goaltending has also sucked and done nothing to bail the team out. We have NOTHING going right absolutely nothing.

Watching games in the league, the teams that are winning generally play an aggressive to the net style offensively and play with a general urgency and pace. We just don't. Methodical, lazy, easy to defend, high risk.

The refusal to shoot the puck in shooting areas on pretty much all lines is a disease. There was one shift from the 29-97-18 line in Game 2 that epitomized this team, think it was later in the second. McDavid had the puck on a string and was ripping around the zone. Good thing right? It actually wasn't, because as he circled the net around the wall on his strong side, both 18 and 29 retreated from the slot to give him a cycle outlet on the wall. At the exact time both should have been gunning to the net to drag defenders down to set up a play to the net, they both go to the wall to collect yet another useless f***ing cycle pass that ends up doing nothing. They just completely retreated. No shots, puck turned over, shitty players over the boards next. This pervasive fear of playing in the middle of the ice in the O zone extends to the big dogs too.

If we reshuffle this off season, and its something we better f***ing do, the focus needs to be on player that play with pace and get rid of the methodical, soft idiots like RNH, Bouchard, Henrique, etc, etc, etc. Sam Bennett is going to cost a fortune, but f*** it. Adding a piece that can play in the top 6 and actually play with some semblance of jam on a consistent basis is something we've needed for over a decade.

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't an .810 well below the expected .872? Talk about an own goal by Gregor here.

Yeah this is so dumb. The series would be 1-1 if we got reasonable goaltending from Skinner. The Oilers have played horribly for most of the first two games. The goaltending has also been awful. Two things can be true.

This is a wildly different series if the Oilers get any goaltending. We probably win game 1. Game 2 is a crapshoot. If LA doesn't win Game 1 are they as aggressive in Game 2? Is Kuemper more shaken?

My least favorite part of the Skinner stuff is when they interview him after he blew the game and he’s sitting there smirking. At least take some accountability ffs

I wouldn't be surprised if that's something his "Sports Psychologist" told him to do.

Well, we gave it a shot. We got him "help" and gave the guy seven playoff rounds to show us he belongs. I wouldn't have trusted him after the rollercoaster of last year's playoffs and being second to dead last in GSAx by early November, but what do I know? I only predicted that Stu would have this kind of implosion again like a day into the season.

Yup, talking about what a learning experience he is on. Seems like the kind of guy who they're really pushing positive mindset on and says all the right things then panics under pressure.
