Post-Game Talk: Can we leave Stu in a California Closet?

I'm not exactly mad - honestly I feel kind of indifferent at this point.

I've been banging the drum and citing the stats that say Skinner is decidedly shit for over two years my guy.

He's currently 16th, last, in the playoffs in GAA, goals saved above expected, and save percentage.

Not really surprising either because he was ranked 67th, 65th, and 57th in those three metrics during the regular season.

If you're a 1B you'd expect all those numbers to be in the 20s. Statistically he's a 3A - most teams have two guys that are better. The exception was Colorado and they went out and got Blackwood.

Meh, I don't really want to defend him up THAT much, lol.
I'm the one who had a Skinner, out meme all ready to go before Playoffs.

but I feel like he was top 60 ( top 45 last year ) in save % in the regular season, good enough to be a backup.

We all agree though, he's not a starter. K, lets go with that haha

Was the mcdavid thing from this game?
Game 82 was McD declining on the fistpump. Skinner was all thrilled he got a shutout against an AHL Sharks club and Skinner is fistbumping everybody in a conga line like he's a hero. McD skates up, looks away, and skates away. he gave him the slightest of touches.

In THIS game McD is waiting at games end for Pickard to come off ice. he immediately goes to him and pats him and says something. I would imagine saying thanks, its your net.

I think to the team Skinner ceased being part of the team after this. Could read the writing on the wall for awhile with Drai constantly praising Pickard, In last game of season Connor McDavid looks and skates away as Stu Skinner tries to fist pump him. McD: "Like, no, thats not happening"
I hope you’re right, Drive.

I’d love to believe that bringing in Pickard and some average play with some nice saves to back up his team gives the skaters the confidence to go out and win the next two games at home. But there’s so much more at all facets of the game that’s also broken beyond repair.

The ridiculous thing on here is the some posters actually believe that a different goale is going to make this team better on defence, better at creating offence, better with giving up passing lanes on the PK, better on the PP and have better discipline.

This team is losing in EVERY aspect of the game and goaltending isnt going to save that.

A new goalie might mask some of the other elements that this team is failing at but the reality is that this team is getting its ass handed to them in every way possible.

LA is vastly superior so far.
The team is struggling in most ways.
However.
If we had even a decent goalie, the series would be 1-1 right now, cause we would have won game 1.

There is also the mental aspect that has been talked about an infinite amount here and pros have even touched on it. When you don’t trust your goalie, and you are worried every shot is going to go in, you play worse. There is a reason teams can suddenly look good when they have a good goalie they trust.

What exactly in the first 2 games here gives you this 'inspired confidence'? They have played like garbage and it's throughout the lineup. Without the incredibly desperate burst of magic from McDavid and Draisaitl in the first game, it would look even worse. This is now two games in a row they've been shelled for 6 apiece. Goaltending, defending, offence, all complete dumpster fires. They can't outscore their inability, or lack of motivation, to defend. They don't have the depth to score their way out of it. It seems pretty damn evident that this year LA wants it far more.

I will say - teams winning after being down 2-0 isn't exactly uncommon, happens atleast once every year.

I will also say - assuming Skinner is out - this team thrives on adversity and having their backs to the wall.

Thats the last game we're losing in round 1. I know it sounds delusional, but we all know they were limping into the playoffs, with zero momentum and more than a handful of players missing the last 4-6 weeks

The Kings are the best home team in the league, but the worst one on the road of all playoff teams. They have never gone up 2 games on us, it takes experience and maturity to close that deal, as it is infinitely harder to win the latter 2 games. And this Oilers team has experience in coming back in a series as they did 3 of 4 rounds last year.

It will be a completely different script on Friday. Do NOT lose faith comrades. This start was expected, but now the ball comes home court, and the momentum will shift dramatically. Also noticed the Kings are streaky. When they win/lose, it in bunches

Remember, like round 4 last year, it takes 4 wins to clinch a series, not 2. This is FAR from over, and i wholeheartedly believe that was the last game we're losing in round 1. But the key? Pickard. Skinner is now the backup. He's money in games 4-7, so maybe reserve him for the latter half of the series. Friday cant get here soon enough
You have to much faith in our coaching staff. These idiots aren't adapting to anything. Woodcroft and Knob are essentially the same coach. Both spineless cowards that can't make tough decisions. I don't want to see RNH, Henrique, Skinner (f*** him) in an Oilers uniform ever again.

If it happens maybe change will actually happen. The problem is who will be the dickhead that brings the wind of change? One of these current f***ing clowns? If it's the same kind of dipshits then it could get even worse somehow. Bowman and Jackson should be shown the door. Not getting a goalie and letting Holloway walk so that we get Arvidsson is a f***ing disgrace.
They almost won the Stanley Cup and then they gutted the youngest of their forwards for what?

Is Pickard vs Skinner's win loss ratio entirely meaningless this season?
Thats not what I am saying.

What I am saying is that this team sucks at defence...and sucks at creating offence when McDavid isnt on the ice. If the Kings continue to key in on McDavid then this series will be over quickly because the Oilers give up way way more on defence than they create on offence.

This defense without Ekholm is embarrassing. Nurse and Bouchard as the top 2 defenders...lol
Thats not contending material. That's material for a comedy.
This forward group is also playing scared.
When you cant defend and cant create much of anything...you have nothing.

It is uncommon for this organization though. Only has happened once.

I hope you're f***ing joking? If he found that shit funny he needs to stay in LA and catch his own f***ing flight back to Edmonton and never lace up his skates for the Oilers again.

It's 100% true.

They gave him a bronx cheer when he stopped a puck flipped at him. He caught the puck in his glove, and did the "ole!" Potvin-esque flare goalies make when they rob someone with the glove. He was laughing it up and chuckling to himself about it.

I wanted to force choke the :eek::eek::eek: when I saw it.

Correction. The Stuart Skinner curse is real and he has some kind of spell on the coaching, the management, and the least intelligent segment of our fanbase.
But the thing is that if the coaching staff say he isn't playing---- well then he isn't playing.

I have never heard of an assistant coach (Schwartz in this case) who gets to pick the starting goaltender. This is ridiculous. I have never heard of this in pro sports. Does this Knob guy have a set of balls?? I've never seen him with anything but the same facial expression.

This series is over.

LA is kicking ass in every way.

My point is that another goalie is able to win games with the same bad defense in front. How can that be?

Like I said - he was 57th in save percentage. That means literally every team in the league had atleast one guy better than him, and 27 of 32 had two guys better than him.

Not exactly awe inspiring stats. Those are the kind of stats that should garner you a bus ride to the American League.

Stu Skinner, I have to mention this, got pulled Immediately after smiling and chucking during a break as the Kings fans were razzing him for a routine stop. The guy is actually laughing. He's been torched for 11goals in 100mins of play and he's laughing it up. I'm pretty sure the OIlers bench was f***ing livid. It was a bench pull and I'm sure the club were talking about it.

The same idiot Stu Skinner was bopping his head to "clap your hands" at 2-0. He was the only Oiler having a good time while this was going.

Get rid of this f***ing loser. Bring up Rodrigue. Skinner can't f***ing read a room to save his life. Its a wonder he's lasted this long with this org. He shouldn't be seen again here.

its one thing to be horrible in net, but to have disposition and laughing in a 5-2 game What a f***ing loser.

They need to run with Pickard and if they haven't already they should call up Delia. Stu has failed the f*** out of this team all season long, no more of that should ever be allowed again.

He's been a liability for three consecutive postseasons. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you. Should've been a given to go in a new direction.

Stu doesn’t hate losing, he will probably remark how he felt good. But if I had Bouchard and Nurse in front of me, i wouldn’t give a shit either. That was rancid.
