Can Jack Hughes become the second best player behind Connor McDavid?

There is a player in the league who just broke Bobby Orr's record for fastest to 250 and already has a Norris + CS. There is a player in the league who was the first player since Lemieux to score 50 goals over a 50 game span. There's another guy who had 128 last year and has multiple 110 pt 50 goal seasons, also 34 pts in a playoffs. Mackinnon has something like 120 pts in his last 82 games , too.

What hughes is doing is great, but let's not be disrespectful here, he has not done anything to be placed with Makar, Draisaitl, Matthews, or MacKinnon yet. How many pts doe EP have in his last 82 as well? 109 pts is amazing but it isn't what it was, there's a handful of guys who have produced at much better levels over 82 games than that recently

Appreciate this response

Because it would take more than another elite season by him to surpass the guys I put above? Why is that hard to understand? I get you Jersey fanboys want to crown your young prince but have some patience. He is on a great track and I am a fan of his who has regularly on these forums said I see him as a top 5 player in this league in the future but he’s 22.

Unfortunately for you boys, Jack is in trouble when it comes to winning trophies after McDavids prime because Bedard is better than Jack

I try to be unbiased. Your fanbase uses laughing emojis and don’t respond to anything factual

Funny! Hughes needs to do it for seasons to surpass people, yet you have Bedard winning all the trophies.

There really isn't anything unbiased about you.

This is called special pleading. You are applying different standards to Bedard than to Hughes here. There's nothing unbiased about using fallacious reasoning to support a narrative.

109 points in his last 82 games, and he played a lot of those games while recovering from injury.

He might already be #2.
That's ridiculous.

He is not better than Matthews, Bedard, Draisitle, McKinnon or Pasternak. Speaking of golden boys, Pasternak was the golden boy before Hughs came along. Maybe its the hair.

Boy, you got real pissy when it comes to McDavid. Are you going to be ok?

I’m not going to get into a pissing match with a bunch of 50 year olds who can’t hold a proper discussion. My points have been said multiple times by other people on this same thread. I also never brought up McDavid but hey, keep being petty.

I guess I’m the only person who thinks Bedard is generational and will be the 2nd best player over McDavid. No point continuing this conversation.

yet another who falls into the blah blah bladard camp... people like you were saying this before he even stepped onto nhl ice,

now, sure he might get there but the horse before the cart stuff is just....well..... horseshit at this point

Bedard is not generational.

It’s a term that’s applied too broadly.

Orr, Gretzky, Mario, McDavid, Crosby and Ovechkin are the only ones who meet that standard of being so far ahead of their peers upon entry in the league.

I'm not 50. I'm also apparently smarter.

Points have not been this easy to come by in a long time.
Powerplays galore and these elite guys can rack up the cookies.
Hughes has a great shot at chasing Connor. Along with Mackinnon an 20 other stars.

Lol I added Bedard as my 8th player when making my original point yet it’s becoming the main talking point because these sad fans couldn’t attack any of the main points. I’m still okay defending my stance on it if needed and it shouldn’t be that hard to understand.

I think Bedard is a better talent than anyone else in the league but McDavid

Let's try a less serious question...

Is he the second most fun or exciting player to watch?

Like, I think Drai is a great player, but I don't find him particularly fun for whatever reason. Makar, MacKinnon ... Those guys are fun and exciting

yours is a fair prediction ....... but only a prediction none the less.
it's also a fair prediction that Bedard won't be all that you say.
Time will tell.

I remember when Lindros came into the NHL. He was going to surpass Gretz and Mario as the best center ever.

We are attacking your lack of self-reflection. You say Hughes needs to do more to be considered in the same group as other players, yet you have Bedard being the best player once McDavid slows down. You already have him in the HOF and one of the best players to every play the sport.

Your lack of critical thinking is mind-numbing.

But hey, in your mind everyone else is sad.

You referred to me as one of the "Jersey fanboys" wanting to "crown your young prince". When I called you out on those accusations and challenged you to produce even one quote of mine that backed up either of those statements, you pivoted and went on to some other nonsense that (once again) has nothing to do with what I actually said. So either step and and show some receipts or admit you are talking out of your ass.

As for Bedard, I never commented on how many trophies he or Hughes would win - I just called out your complete hypocrisy for saying that Hughes would need "more than another elite season" to match your top 3 centers yet Bedard would only need one to reach the Hughes/Crosby/EP tier.

LOL...yeah, it's the other posters that can't "hold a proper discussion"...

I eagerly await you to completely dodge everything I wrote and go off on some other random tangent.

This one is quite full of himself.

I mean, I don’t think that is true at all. People just get underwhelmed when top picks who are touted as a McDavid/AM level talent don’t put up similar numbers in their rookie year. Obviously he needed to build strength and wasn’t as NHL ready but most people on here knew he’d be good, just wasn’t sure how good.
There is not many people, including myself who thought he would be this good after his first 2 years. I figured he needed time but I didn’t see this level.

So was John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day, and Joe Veleno. Being exceptional at 15 doesn't guarantee being a generational talent, does it?
This is the kind of stuff that would only happen in the Jack Hughs pump thread.
