Yep, I mean the only matchup I thought was mildly interesting heading in was Vols @ Bucknuts, and even there I expect the home team to win. The other 3 games had blowout written all over them and that's exactly what we got so far.

Pretty much. I'm sure Indiana and SMU fans enjoyed being in the spotlight but they aren't true contenders. It is what it is.

It's gonna be pretty damning to the sport and the idea that the playoffs should expand if Tennessee vs Ohio State isn't a competitive game.

Indiana's coach showed how small his giblets were with his play calling and then SMUs qb amazed me with how incompetent he looked.

Woof!

It should surprise no one that there aren’t actually 12 real national title contenders in a given year in college football.

Especially when step one for 4 of the last teams in is “win a road game against a top 10 team.”

I think they did a good job picking the best 12 options. But that doesn’t mean all 12 have a shot at winning this tournament.

Lol, the game that was supposed to be close is turning into a blowout and Buckeye fans are mocking Tennessee with the SEC chants. Fair to say that year 1 of the expanded playoff is off to a bad start and I fully expect Boise State and Arizona State to get their asses kicked next.

College football is and will forever be a rich vs poor and there's very few rich. There should be no more expanding of these playoffs. 12 is way too much. Hell even 4 some years was too much.

considering how SMU showed I don't. Any of Colorado, BYU, and Alabama would have been better options.
I don't think Colorado, BYU or Alabama would have faired much better against OSU or PSU or even Notre Dame, especially on the road. It's easy to say in hindsight, but those teams were very flawed as well.

Colorado didn't beat a top 25 team and lost to Nebraska, Kansas State and Kansas.
BYU also didn't be anyone that was a top 25 team in the final poll and lost to Kansas and ASU.
Bama probably is the strongest team of those 3, but they lost to Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Oklahoma. They barely beat South Carolina, who is ranked in the top 25. That and a white washing of Missouri are their signature wins.

I really don't think it's off to a bad start. Everyone knows that there aren't 12 teams that will compete for a national championship. Part of sports is having people talk about the sport after the game, whether it be a close game, controversy, or something like this.

12 is probably too many, but at least you can pretty much be guaranteed that a team that is good enough to win the National Title at least gets a chance to do so. And you eliminate the argument of a team from a lesser conference not getting a shot when they did what they needed to do.

With only 4 teams, there's a very good chance that a team good enough to win the whole thing was left out. Maybe 8 is the right number?

12 brings in more money which I'm sure was the driver.

Mike Elko is a poor man's Jimbo Fisher. A&M is never going to get it right.

On another note, A&M really needs to ditch the yell leaders. There's a reason no other school does that. Even Clemson which like A&M was all male military for a long time didn't do the yell leader thing. Aggies will disagree with me but there's nothing about those goofballs that would make me want to play there.

I've never seen a player just quit on his team at halftime and leave them high and dry and of course it leads to a 1 point Miami loss. Yikes, not a good look for Cam Ward

So apparently the reason he even started the game was that he was 1TD away from the all time NCAA passing record.

Just saw the backups numbers, holy hell. I don't say this lightly but I'm pretty f***ing sure there are people on this board that could put up better than that.

Way to put himself above the team. Most blatant selfish act I've seen, and that is saying a lot in the current college climate

If I'm an NFL GM, I'm not drafting Ward. He has the right to do what he did. I have the right to question his loyalty to his teammates.

State is pathetic. Can we finally be done with Doeren?

Gotta beat UNC in Chapel Hill to save his job and become bowl eligible another 2-3 times first.

State performs exactly as one would expect in a bowl game...give up the game with < 2 min left to an unranked team that they SHOULD be significantly better than

I honestly was surprised to see ECU in a bowl game at all. Last time I paid attention to my alumnus, they were Carolina Panthers-level bad. It does make sense that they would put up a great fight against State though.

I'm not sure how State made it either, they were <.500 on the year and awful 90% of the time. ECU is one of those teams that always gives State fits, as do bowl games, perfect recipe for disaster for State

Do any of these large school teams that aren't in the playoffs even care about the outcome of the bowl games? Depending on the location, I could see how they'd want to go and enjoy the moment, but there are 8000 bowls with mediocre teams, many times with the best players sitting out.

I'm not saying they aren't trying to win, but there's a difference between committing to win vs. trying to win. I suspect the motivation isn't there for many players.

I think smaller school teams might be more motivated to beat a bigger school team though as this is their chance to show they belong.
