The addition of Trouba makes Fowler even more expendable than he already was. Fowler has 1 more year on his deal beyond this season at a cap hit of $6.5M. He does have a restrictive no trade clause, but it’s believed he is willing to accept deals to more teams (likely to competitive teams).

Detroit seems like an obvious candidate, but what other teams could be interested in Fowler? And the Ducks are likely willing to take back a bad contract as part of a deal. Not sure if they would retain on Fowler, but I don’t think it’s out of the question.

Is there any particular reason for Fowler's slow start this season? I like him as a player and would want the Sharks to get him if they could make it make sense and Fowler was alright being there but there's too many variables that would need to get right for it to happen.

What is the honest state of him as a player these days? Is he cooked or is he still helpful to team?

I suspect if he is still at least a good 2nd pairing dman if they retain 50% they will get a first for sure, and something else. Kind of like the McCabe deal

He’s definitely not cooked, he just needs to be in a smaller role. 2nd pair, 2nd PP unit and he should be fine. Still skates very well.

He got overused as a #1 on such a bad team these last few years, still managed to pop off for a career year two seasons back. I think on a more established team he fits as a #3/4 guy, give him a good defensive partner and he will prop up their puck moving/transition game. Pretty decent on the powerplay, outside of never having a great shot to be a true scoring threat from up top.

He's being used as a #1 D, but he's probably more of a #3 guy. He shouldn't be playing 22-24 mins a night as a matchup D. Give him fewer minutes (not necessarily avoid it, but not the primary matchup every night) against the top players in the league and more against 2nd/3rd lines and he's fine. He's more of a PP2/PK2 guy. He's probably fairly paid, he just gets exposed on a Ducks team that didn't have another top 3 D on it in years. Fowler at 50% running your 2nd pair would be amazing value (you're probably a legit contender if he's your #4).

Interesting. I wonder which teams need puck moving on the 2nd pair left side badly. Have to think the Oilers are heavily interested

Oilers if they think he can play RD with Nurse. Not a perfect fit since I believe Edmonton would value a righty but his skill set and ability matches what they are trying to add.

He has scored 129 points in the last 3 seasons. He is a 45 point defensemen on the worst off/PP in the league.

He has been used and abused by the Ducks for the last 5 years, especially the last 3 since Lindholm got traded.

He should be a solid 2nd pairing guy that doesnt have to play the PK. Put him on a team where he can play that role and he will shine.

Fowler screams Canuck, he's exactly what Allvin would be looking for, and Hughes would always be #1LD so he'd be able to play a little further down the lineup.
Canucks was always 1 of the team i felt made sense... i just dont know if hed waive for there.

I wonder what Columbus was offering for Trouba? Maybe same package for Fowler?
Id imagine fowler is a bit more value than trouba.

I guess we'll see, the Canucks are competitive, probably one of the best places for him fit wise, lots of Americans, and a world class city, so it wouldn't surprise me but if he had his heart set on another team, such is life.

Well it has been speculated he was willing to go to more teams than his 4 team ntc.... so maybe hes just ready to begin a new chapter in the NHL.

I think that he's a bit like a west coast Matheson in that I just don't know what contending team is looking to part with the assets ANA is probably looking to get back for an offensive guy that probably should be your 3rd or 4th best defenseman AND has the space to keep him for an extra year.

Dallas would be a perfect fit ... if Fowler was a righty. Vancouver's D group is so awful that I could see them being interested maybe? Winnipeg?
