Calling Kyle Turris but he ain't pickin up.

Does anyone know what his faceoff % has been lately? Seems to me he has started winning a lot more, and getting kicked out a lot less lately.

And why, last night, did the linesman kick the other guy out of the faceoff, but the ref came over and gave Turris hell? Because he won't get in there until the other guy is in position and not cheating? If this is his new method, it seens to be working.

It's always a great sign when a player plays better in the playoffs than in the regular season. He was even making a few hits with what little bulk he has. The small guys on this team are not playing small.

Turris was 65% (15-23) on faceoffs last night. :handclap:

Turris's faceoff percentage results in this series thus far (from nhl.com):

  • 29% in game 1
  • 45% in game 2
  • 68% in game 3
  • 65% in game 4

He's learning.

NHL.com:

#1 Smith 62.3%
#2 Turris 52.0%
#3 Pageau 41.5%
#4 Zibanejad 27.7%

In terms of faceoffs taken in the series

Turris has taken the most by a significant margin, Smith second, Pageau third, Zibanejad fourth

Zibanejad needs to work on faceoffs and at least get to where Pageau is. It's no wonder when I look about 3/4 of the time the Zibanejad line is in its own end.

He also made a very good back-check play on Gallagher, around 2:40 on the NHL.com highlights.

I thought he had one of the best games of the season yesterday (even if you don't count his goal in OT) Finally doing something along the boards. I remember at least 3 times when he finished his checks (WHOA looking at stats he had 6!!! hits, just behind Neil's 10 and Gryba's 7) He had just 1 hit combined in 3 previous play-off games.
I think there were not enough TURRI-I-I-I-IS, TURRIS, TURRIS, TURRIS! TURRI-I-IS!TURRI-I-IS! chants in SBP

Faceoffs usually come with age and experience. Not surprising to see Pageau and Zibby below 50%.

Or getting the right faceoff match ups on home ice?

Oh, good thinking. Probably has something to do with it. Let's take a closer look at the match-up's...

He's drawn roughly the same opposition in each match. In each game besides game 3, Turris has squared of with Plekanec the most...

Turris v. Plekanec thus far:

  • 2-12 in game one
  • 1-5 in game two
  • 5-6 in game three
  • 9-11 in game four

In game 3, the only centre he drew more than Plekanec was Desharnais. They faced off 7 times and Turris won 5 of those. They had only faced off four times before that (in MTL) splitting the difference winning 2 draws a piece. Last game wasn't so lucky as Turris went 0-4 against Desharnais.

He's owned faceoff specialist Jeff Halpern whenever he's gone against him this series as well...

Turris v. Halpern

  • 2-2 in game 2
  • 5-7 in game 4

Both Desharnais and Plekanec batted even on the season (around 50%). Halpern was the Habs leader at 55%.

For this series at least, a case can be made that Turris has learned how to deal with the players he's matched up against. It could just be familiarity with the opposition he's against so who knows if it continues. In any case, it's a positive development I think.

(ps I made an error...Turris was actually 29% in G1)

He's been good. I don't know why its so bad to tell the truth around here.

There is nothing wrong with saying a guy playing like crap is playing like crap.

He's playing a lot better lately. The goal was nice, but it was a bad, bad, BAD goal to give up.

Lalimesque.

It was a deflection off the defensman. Not sure you can with any degree of honestly put that on Budaj, or credit Turris with a good shot. Just a lucky bounce.

I think crap was overstating it

He was crap in terms of production but he was fine in most other aspects

zibby and Silverberg are going to be great players for us in future look at them now conacher great trade for Ottawa even though bishop was great in goal 2nd round this year is beyond belief with injuries this year and glen healy don't seem think Ottawa has great players he hates Ottawa puts them down every time he talks

Well in any case it's good to see that he's picked up the phone.

I know the goal was a fluke. Reminded me of the one Redden scored on Chokepanic back in the day.

I miss Cechmanek. I have a soft spot for bumbling goaltenders.

On other teams.
