Cale Makar: Norris, Conn Smythe, Stanley Cup.

I've rarely, if ever, heard the Montreal media praise a player as much as they praised Makar since the last game.

A few examples (from different analysts/journalists):

"To watch him play is like watching poesy"

"Controls the ice like we've never seen before"

"Bobby Orr with Nicklas Lidstrom defense"

"Is the best defenseman in the NHL and he's alone on top"

"Is to defensemen what McDavid is to forwards"

"He has all possible attributes maxed: skating, hockey IQ, shooting"

Seriously, it's quite something.

We should take them at their word, they are, after all, the experts. :D

He's creating a ton of chances and getting a lot of shots to the net, but no one (other than Mikko) can finish right now. This is a weird mixture of bad luck for him and everyone else in a scoring slump. If we can start actually getting some of our 35+ shots a night to go in, I'm sure his offensive numbers will go back up.

It's also the fact that everyone's gameplan going in against the Avs is to do everything possible to slow things down for #8. Whether it's preventing him from leading the rush or piling bodies in his shooting lanes, they're going out of their way to converge on him. Doesn't help that he's not running at full speed due to overwork (and I'm not the only one who thinks he's also banged up).

All this talk and he still has 29 points in 31 games. Reading a lot of these comments you would think he has like 10 points. When Mackinnon and company come back he will go on a huge run and be right near the top again.

Now we know what Makar is going to do when he retires. He's gonna become a ref
