Calder Watch : 2024-25 Season

It’s inconceivable for a fan of any team to say that Lane Hutson would not have a spot on their roster this year.

Its beyond idiotic if that fan is referring to Lane not cracking the Sharks - one of the worst teams in NHL history.

just saying!

I see a lot of Habs fans saying Celebrini will be amazing long term. I absolutely concur. I see two franchise players out of this rookie class. Celebrini and Hutson. Hope it'll be neck in neck for a long time.
I think Michkov will be the best player in Philly for a long time and thus a franchise player as well.

I also think Wolf will be consistently a top 10 goalie throughout his career and likely be in Vezina talk a time or two. Franshise level goalie.

Agree with you on Celebrini. Elite two-way centre for the Sharks and one day Team Canada.

Hutson has a better rookie season than all of them. Unreal.

As Flyers fan I would have loved to see MM take the Calder, but being objective it's:

1) Hutson
2 a) Wolf/Celebrini
2 b) Michkov

With another coach MM would have had a better season point wise, but he learnt important lessons with his Dinosaur teachings.
Doing what he did this season without a true top line Center was pretty remarkable. Add on top of that playing for a coach who benched him whenever he cheated on the ice or made a mistake.

I'm not sure how to phrase this exactly but I think you might need help bro. Forget about the "bad faith" talk.

Firstly, I never used the term barely. I said notable. Regardless, we were referring to 15 points in the standings for the Habs. As in 91 points this year vs. 76 points from last year. You seemed to have gone on some tangent on points for players and forwards vs. defenseman (I'm guessing in the context of Celebrini vs. Hutson?) which is completely irrelevant to what we were discussing. I have no idea idea how you jumped from points in the standings to points in terms of goals/assists. It is literally one of the wildest jumps in logic I've seen.
You don't need to resort to personal attacks, you'll never reach me over an internet forum lol.

You made my point for me. You downplay every single thing in favor of Hutson and that's clearly of "bad faith". Not gonna waste my time repeating the same thing to you again.

Bro ignores the fact he made a fool out of himself with regards to the context of the post. My original post you quoted was with regards to the quality of the Habs team year over year relative to other bottom dwellers. Not Hutson or his performance. Keep reaching though.

Watched some clips today and I saw one when Caufield walked through Celebrini.... A small PP specialist burned him 1v1. Celebrini looked bad on that play, Hutson would have been all over Caufield, no shot.

Celebrini is going to be great but he needs more experience.

I think hutson playing a big role on a team that went bottom 5 last year to playoffs this year is going remove any remaining doubt about who wins the Calder.

But that celebrini critique is unfair imo. We are talking about 3 on 3 "hockey" here.

You gotta be kidding me. Your fanbase's bad faith has been oozing out of this thread.

All of the fanbases of players who were in the mix for the Calder this year were pretty much equally embarrassing

It's going to be Hutson and I'm totally fine with that. Kid had a great year and would be a deserving winner. The Habs don't make the playoffs without him. Wouldn't get super carried away with the all 'record setting' and all time comparisons myself, there were 8 other dmen to break 60pts this season, including Evan Bouchard who can barely even call himself a defenseman. It was an impressive year and three other rookies also had Calder consideration worthy seasons. No reason to make it more than it was other than silly fan hype.

Wolf and Celebrini would be my other two candidates and I say that as a big Michkov believer who would not be surprised at all to see the Russian be the best of the bunch 10 years down the road. Celebrini turned in one of the best teenage two way C seasons I can remember. Not a lot of kids are ready for the kinds of demands the Sharks put on him and Macklin delivered big time. This is the kind of star C you can win with. Wolf was also terrific. Starting NHL G is one of the harder jobs in pro team sports and Wolf's anticipation and quick feet are already among the best in the NHL. As a Flames fan who has watched his career closely in the AHL it's more vindication of an already formed opinion on a player than true surprise at his ability but make no mistake, he was the sole reason the team very nearly made the playoffs.

The persecution complex coming from some Habs fans is both self delusional and quite humorous
If he bothered to raise a counter point eg engage in discussion instead of replying with a dumb gif then you'd have a point

But this guy doesn't even try to hide it

This thread has long ago regulated into the spincycle. It's just repeats itself. Over and over

I want to start by saying I think Hutson should win the Caldar.

But, I would be really interested in guessing how Celebrini and Hutson stats would look like if they switch teams with each other. Of the 66 points Hutson has, 60 is assist. Of those 60 assists, 35 are secondary. I imagine there wouldn't be many assists if Hutson was playing in San Jose.

It would result in less pts for Celebrini as well.

Celebrini wouldn't be getting as many offensive opportunities with Montreal as he did with San Jose since he would be on the 2nd line. The habs 2nd line has also been brutal this year and Celebrini would be playing with less good linemates than he had with the sharks. He would be playing with Newhook who had 22 EV points and Laine who had 14 EV points.
