Calder Watch : 2024-25 Season

Suzuki >> Celebrini until proven otherwise, and that may never happen. Your imaginary ceilings mean nothing. Suzuki has the higher ceiling right now, and that has nothing to do with draft pedigree as some players take longer to reach similar ceilings, see the example of Mackinnon vs Crosby to reach a similar ceiling. So nothing you are saying matters until Celebrini proves something, which he hasn't proved to be close to Suzuki yet.

Hutson > Celebrini

That's what matters here. Hutson will win the Calder over Celebrini.

Celebrini is a great rookie and a good centerman already, but comparing him to what Suzuki has become this season is foolish. He has to prove himself, he has to prove he can remain healthy and lead a team. He hasn't yet, but he has lots of time to prove himself.
Dude, I'm a hab fan too, but you're out to lunch on this. You can't just take a word, that sports fans all agree means one thing and change the meaning so it fits your narrative. Ceiling means best case scenario, what type of player can the subject become. It doesn't have anything to do with current production. I suspect you know this and you're arguing in bad faith. You're wrong, just let it go.

Ceiling means the highest level of play that one would maintain a level of consistency at

Alright, you've made me see that I'm wrong. Ceiling means highest potential and I will agree that Celebrini holds that right now. Celebrini has the higher ceiling. But these are the numbers right now, Celebrini still has a lot to prove before he can be compared to Suzuki who just carried a team on his back right into a playoff spot.

That statement I agree with completely. He has 6 years to improve, but if he catches up to Suzuki's current level of play, which is not certain, they'll be very happy because they'll have one of the best centers in the league. Elite two-way player...

I've said earlier this year I just don't think Will Smith is a C at the NHL level.

The more I watch San Jose this year the less I think that's an issue. Celebrini and Smith have such instant chemistry I doubt they'll be separated going forward.
Celebrini would be better off with a more physical winger. Will could feast on the 2nd line Couture style.

Sure buddy. I’ve only watched him for over a decade and just look at their early careers or rookie seasons.
Yeah, Celebrini is better than Thornton was at the same age, but Thornton didn’t even play in SJ then, so it’s irrelevant.

You said you’ve never had this calibre of player (rookie Celebrini), meanwhile you had a player who won the Art Ross with 125 points.

That’s an objectively better player than rookie Celebrini - how tf could anyone even begin to argue otherwise?

Celebrini is leagues ahead of Thornton at the same age and when we are talking about Celebrini’s caliber, we are talking about his sky high potential.

Will Smith with 4 points and Celebrini with 5 points. Absolutely bonkers.
