Hopefully the refs have learned their lesson and won't fall for a dive this time.
You are obviously watching hockey for the first time /SARCASM!
I would like to think so but don’t bank on it. Either way I expect us to be on the PK a lot tonight and you can bet Ovi will be setting up shop in his left-side office. Again, I hope I’m wrong.
I expect you are correct...

Funny thing is that taking lots of penalties is usually a sign that we’re playing good, aggressive, forechecking hockey.

When we were in that lull, we werent taking penalties, and we were losing…
I see your overall point but we take a ton of penalties when we lose as well. I’ll reference the three previous games vs the Caps this season.

I don't mind us taking penalties, what I don't like is when we take cheap penalties. If you're gonna get called for something, f***ing earn it with a heavy check or something that makes the opponent think twice about doing something again, and enough of the cheap stick fouls.

I get that and I think most fans would want that, but the top categories in the NHL for penalties are always "cheap penalties". The top categories (2019 data):

1) Tripping
2) Hooking
3) Slashing
4) Roughing
5) Interference
6) Holding
7) High Stick
8) Cross-check.

Very few teams take a lot of "think twice about it" penalties on the whole. Some roughing and some cross-check may fall into that category, but even in those two groups, the vast majority are not overly violent.

Cole (11th most penalties in the NHL) gets a lot of penalties because he's kind slow and takes penalties in reaction to being beat many times. Svechnikov (3rd most penalties in the NHL) and Trocheck (12th most penalties in the NHL) take a lot because they are undisciplined, and in some cases due to reputation.

Nobody else on the team is close to that. Skjei is next at 99th and Aho at 105. Domi as at 120 and then Kotkaniemi at #225.

Similar to what I said in the GDT for the previous Caps game, we’re going to need at least 4 goals to beat them… maybe even more in their barn. It’s in our best interest to spend as much time on the ice trying to score rather than wasting time on the PK.

Playoffs is all that matter and how'd we do there?
I agree playoffs are a whole different type of season. This isnt 2019 though. We arent sneaking up on anyone this year and the Caps have an axe to grind with us. They deny any rivalry with Carolina, which I dont personally care either way, but they definitely get amped for us. They have our number right now and getting swept by them while leading the division isnt a good look or feel any way you look at it.

Tip for the Canes, dont let Ovi have a shooting gallery, and man mark on him on the PP, it cant result in anything worse than some other Caps score instead, nothing to lose, its not like what you ´ve tried the last 15+ years have worked.
