Please hold him down one more year or at least over new year, so he can play WJC 20. However I see the chances for that to be slim.

IMO it depends on if they want to develop him as a centre or a winger. If theyre fine with him being a winger, then there's probably no reason he cant make the team.

If they want to develop him as a centre, given that he's at this point played winger for the majority of the past two seasons, they may want to keep him down for at least a couple of months to let him adjst back to the C position and ensure he's playing it the way they want/expect him to.

No need to downplay some prospects (ritchie, virtanen, ehlers, reinheart...) to pump nylander tires. I'm a leafs fan, i'm happy for him but no need to hate on others. I think all teams did well in the 2014 draft

2014 has the potential to become a 2003 type class. So much talent from the class just look at the players ekblad, reinhart, bennet, draisitle, da colle, pastranak, fiala, fleury, vrana, tuch, nylander, schmalts, ehlers, viratanen, honka, ritchie, and many others all these prospects have really high end potential they all can become a top line player or top pairing dman. Incredible draft. Will take a while though before teams reap the reward from their prospects

Yeah he's pretty much too good to not make the leafs.

If we play him on wing...He's might be the 3rd best winger (assuming Lupul is gone) after Kessel/JVR already. Or we can use him in the 3C and try to shelter him with Kadri/Holland as the 1-2.

Honestly I think he is NHL ready already. 18p in last 17gp, took him time to adjust to the AHL but he's on fire now. Whether its worth bringing him up to a bottom 5 team next year or keeping him in the AHL to dominate again is Shanny's decision.
Not really a fair comparison.

Put Nylander on the third line with no PP time and tell him to work on his D zone/board work all year and see what kind of numbers he puts up.

Why if we clean house next year, and trade our best players than nylander and brown deserve a shot at the top 6. I mean other players like pastranak, drouin, hubby all played on their teams the year after they were drafted . Imo nylander is as talented as all 3 of those maybe more. He should be on the big club next year and be given every chance to succeed. Whether he plays winger or centrr should be up to him and the coaching staff. He has too much talent to be playing down in the ahl, I know people will give the detroit wings as an example. But people are not seeing that when nyquist and tatar first started out in the ahl they did not put up stats as good as nylanders, it took those guys 2 or 3 years too start putting up ppg or close to it. If nylander Is already dominant, than no reason to put him down in the ahl and make him feel like we dont see him as a key part of the future. We keep players down in the ahl for far too long. Next year brown, levio, mckegg, nylander, percy should all be on the team getting minutes.

Don't worry they do the same with Virtanen. They think Nylander is the next Ovechkin or something :D

Two completely different play styles. Nylander looks like a spitting image (play style wise) of Patrick Kane. And no, we don't do the same with Virtanen. It's the Canucks fans who compare him to Nylander all the time, and we can't help that Nylander shatters expectations whereas Virtanen seems nowhere close.

Have two line mates ever done that before?

Nyquist was a PPG player in his rookie year in the AHL. 58 points in 56 games. He still spent the majority of his 2nd pro season in the AHL, and even had to start the year there in his 3rd season.

He was also four years older, and on a team that scored 241 goals. The Marlies would have to score 50 goals in their last four games to reach that level of output.

Nylander is 18....Nyquist was what? 23?

I think Nylander is playing up to a high level this season. Virtanen was an instrumental piece for team Canada and had a good year in the WHL. There's no need for different seeding of prospects imo everyone in the top 10 seems to have benefitted thus far

That was not really his point now? He didnt say that Nyquist was a bigger talent than Nylander, just that he also preform well in AHL in his first season but was still keept down in AHL.

I wasn't meaning to take a shot at the poster, or anything, I just thought I'd provide some context. I know they weren't trying to compare Nylander and Nyquist.

Incorrect on Drouin.

It will be interesting to see how the Leafs treat Nylander compared to how Nashville treats Fiala. Granted their teams are in completely different states but if Nylander moves to wing specifically I will be watching closely.

Mackinnon played wing his first pro season but he is still believed to be a center, right? No reason to think that Nylander could be in yje NHL next year as a winger and only a winger going forward. Seguin was the same case. Winger in first year and then a center.
