Well Nylander and Marner have yet to play in the NHL. Rielly has 2 seasons under his belt and is no longer considered a prospect

William Nylander and Mitch Marner are the two best prospects the Maple Leafs franchise has had in quite some time. Never did Nazem Kadri or Morgan Rielly, both widely hyped, carry the résumé and high-end ceiling that Marner and Nylander possess.
What I was referring to.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a few games after the TD

I think that depends on the marlies. If they're battling for a spot, I think they keep him down to help lead the team. Even if they're doing really well, you may not want to mess with the chemistry.

The way I look at it, give him a few games to start the season(if he earns a shot at camp) and then send him down. Unless he's playing like a true NHLer, then you have to consider his growth may be better served learning against the speed and skill of the NHL.

Gonna be interesting for Willie this year.

If he's too good to be sent down. Aka, better at centre than Holland and Bozak at the START of the year (I don't think anyone doubts that with another year of development he wouldn't be better than those two). Then he plays on the big club.

Babcock's words.

Yup, he won't spend much if any time on the Marlies this year. He'll be the #2C on the Leafs.

Too early to say that definitively, I think.

There's a reason the Leafs have loaded up on NHL depth. Nylander is going to have to beat out guys who have been here before.

It'll be a good challenge.

Do people really expect that Nylander won't be better than all our forwards not named Kadri, JvR, and (Healthy) Lupul this year? Lupul is even debatable.

I don't think he's a lock to make it this year but it's a bit crazy of people to assume there's no way it happens and that it would be the worst thing ever if they did play him.

Personally I think Brown and Percy are our rookies who make it full time this year for sure. And about 50/50 on Nylander.

He talked up young guys all the time in Detroit and said things of that nature routinely, but then would do the exact opposite. You guys need to get use to Babcockisms.

The way he coached Detroit and the way he will coach Toronto - At least in terms managing youth, will be completely different. One team is perpetually in the Playoffs. The other is in a rebuild.

Another thing is Babcock never had a prospect the same caliber as Nylander or higher in Detroit. All of Detroit's young up and comers were project picks drafted late.

If he's one of our top 3 or 4 forwards. He will be on the team. That's just the way it'll go.

A great read:

William Nylander isn’t just squeezing into the Top 10 scorers, or merely outscoring his entire age group. He’s outscoring everyone his age that’s played for 10 or 15 or 20 years. And he’s doing this every year, in every league.

In Swedish Junior: Nylander scored at a 1.6 Points Per Game (PPG) pace. Faster than any 16 year old in a decade. Faster than Landeskog, the Sedins, Filip Forsberg, or Gustav Nyquist.

The Allsvenskan: He then went on to the Swedish AHL-equivalent, where he scored faster than any 17 year old ever. Faster than Forsberg and Pastrnak and Burakowsky and Backlund and, well… everyone, right?

In the SHL: he scored faster than any 18 year old had in 20 years. Faster than both Sedins, Anze Kopitar, and Peter Forsberg. Look, he scored faster than Mats Sundin, and he did this on a disastrously bad, last-place MODO team.

AHL: After Nylander ran out of runway in Sweden, he got called over to the AHL. A mid-season change of language, team-mates, rink size and so on is not easy. The result? Well, in 37 games he scored more points than any 18 year old had in five years. He upped his scoring rate every. single. month. as he adjusted, rising from 0.5 to 0.6 to 0.9 to 1.3 PPG — just as he had scaled up his scoring rate in the SHL. He finished the season with 15 points in the last 10 games.

International: At every age — 17, 18 and 20 — Nylander has scored more than 1.4 PPG at the Worlds. Pause on that and hit replay for a second: At every age — 17, 18 and 20 — Nylander has scored more than 1.4 PPG at the Worlds. He was the top scorer at the World Under 18’s, and just one point off the lead at last year’s World Junior Championship.

Yes and I'm sure Detroit had prospects of Nylander's ability trying to make the team every year...
