C/W Marat Khusnutdinov (2020, 37th, MIN)

Amirov has by far the biggest upside out of guys mentioned here. Nikishin is a safer pick but he probably caps out as a #4D. The only thing Ponomaryov has going for him against Amirov is that he is a lot later birthday but since I can only stat-watch him I will just wait for U18s for further judgment.

By the way, an interesting tidbit I just noticed, Nikishin and Amirov are born on the same day.

Khusnutdinov or Amirov? Who is the top Russian in the draft?
Gonna go with Khusnutdinov here. He's probably the most underrated player of the draft as well. He's easily a first-round talent and might even be a top 10 talent. Amirov is a stud as well though.

That's how I'm feeling as of now. He just has a crazy amount of raw talent.

Easily the most intriguing prospect of the draft for me. Crazy to think it's possible he goes in the middle/end of the second. I could definitely see him becoming a Jaden Schwartz(if he was a center) type player in the NHL. Then again, the pedestrian MHL numbers do give me slight pause. Like I said, intriguing!!

It's a joke if nobody drafts him in the 1st round

He probably will fall due to the bias a lot of teams scouting have to North American players as much as he really should not. But who knows maybe a very Russian friendly team can pick him up in the 1st.

Khusnutdinov is a no draft. If I had to choose, I would probably pick his SKA team mate Maxim Krovyakov over him, but it's close.

Would you care to elaborate on this? Has he off-ice issues? Because skill wise he seems to be a first-round-talent.

Would it be crazy if the Hawks took him 9th?

I think so.

I think first round might even be a little high for Khusnutdinov. I'm a fan of the player, but an undersized player who doesn't produce statistically is a risky proposition in the first round.

Picking that player at 9 is even riskier. At least in the late first round you know the chances of getting an impact player are low, so if you miss on the pick, it doesn't make that much of a difference.

Two totally different players aside from being centers on SKA. I see why Krovyakov has a good reputation because he's big, so versatile and strong in all three zones. But Khusnutdinov crushed him in several key categories, including faceoffs. I had a tough time figuring out who the 2C was behind Tsyplakov. TOI-wise it was Khusnutdinov was it always seemed like Krovyakov's unit was called right after Tsyplakov's.

Where did Bob McKenzie rank him in his mid season rankings?
He wasn't ranked.

Interesting to see so many people this high on him. I've only seen him play once. Numbers are just "ok" and he is a small little fella. Some nice workman like highlights, but not sure why people think he is the most intriguing guy or his upside is super high? Seems more like a Pageau type best case scenario, no? A good little two-way center, but limited upside?

Yes he was. 58th overall.

Khusnutdinov is very young for his draft year and improved quite a bit as the year went on. His defensive ability, work-ethic, and passing are extremely impressive for his age. His numbers aren't great, but context matters here; he got little PP time, especially in the beginning of the year, doesn't get prime playing time, and got 23 pts in his last 19 games.

Even so, a Pageau type player would still be a great pick in the mid-late 1st and a steal outside of there. And I think his ceiling is higher than that.

Pretty much this.

FWIW, it should also be noted that the vast majority of his production is primary. He is not just racking up secondary assists but driving the offense.

Did Khusnutdinov play on the Hlinka/Gretzky?
