Say what you want about McPhee, but his scouting teams always find talent anywhere in the draft.

Since there are a couple Swedes posting, anyone want to give a little scouting report on his game? I’ve only read a couple paragraphs here and there and of course never seen him play.

Also, it seems like there are hundreds of Karlsson’s in Sweden. Hell there are like 3 or 4 in the NHL if im not mistaken. Is Karlsson like the Canadian / American version of Smith? Just a random observation I had haha.

Just go read the first page of this thread, much info there. There's a decent amount of highlights on youtube too.

Looks like Vegas already has a draft steal on their hands. Thought Elvenes was one of the more noticeable forwards at the Vegas prospects camp.

I shouldn’t have written scouting report. I meant more like what does he look like this year? What has caused him to seemingly break out?

The stuff on the first page is 1 to 1.5 years old. Has he gotten significantly stronger? Improved skating? Just natural development? That’s more what I mean to say.

I haven't watched him a ton this a year but I think it's just natural development and confidence. I was pretty certain that he would produce in Allsvenskan this year, he's just a very skilled player. I said multiple times last year that he had 1st round skill, vision and creativity so...for me it was really odd to see him fall that far in the draft.

His SHL production is a nice surprise, maybe that's fueled by confidence from allsvenskan + a chip on his shoulder over getting cut from the WJC team. But yeah, he always had the skill to be a productive player, that's not something new. So I don't know if I'd call it a breakout year for him necessarily. The one thing that is still a questionmark however is his goalscoring ability. 6 goals in 33 games isn't very inspiring.

Now at 11 points in 7 games. 3+8. Currently leads the league in scoring, and 1 point away from double the points total of the #2 in points on the Wolves(Quinney, his linesmate, at 6pts).

There will be a third line wing available next season, probably with Glass or Stastny at center and a great winger on the other side, so Elvenes should have every opportunity to turn into a great winger. And then Dugan and Dorofeyev still in the pipeline.

Could Quinney be a fourth line center next season?

One of those guys who showed skills but not always production.... now he's producing. Always been a fan.

Disagree, he has produced at every level. The only question is his goal-scoring. Because of that I think he is probably a top6 or bust player. He needs to play with talented players who can capitalize on his playmaking abilities.

Again, I'm a fan and have been high on sim since his draft year.... but he went from 16 pts in 28 games in his draft +1 season to only 4 more points in 14 more games in his D + 2.

I also wouldn't say his goal scoring is a "question". He hasn't scored goals in SHL or now in AHL. I don't think that will change. But he's a playmaking winger, ala someone like Ales Hemsky.

Finally, disagree about "Top 6 or bust". Most teams stopped that mentality awhile ago. Plenty of teams use secondary scoring(30-40pt) "soft" players on their 3rd lines now.

Does this mean Tye McGinn, & Gage Quinney are talented?

Also, shame the thread title says Lukas instead of Lucas.

SHL is a tough league to score in. There's a lot of high-end prospect who "stall" production-wise in their 2nd year in that league.

He is a playmaking winger but he will need to be able to score goals in the NHL, especially if he is on a so-called "soft" 3rd line. Goal-scoring is the hardest thing to translate to the NHL level, so it is a bit concerning that he has never been able to put up decent goal totals in any league ever really.

AHL is not the same as the NHL.
