I loved watching him when he was in Saginaw. No idea how he didn't go higher in his draft year.

I think a lot of players tend to underachieve playing in Saginaw for whatever reason. (Sgarbossa, Oleksiak, Camara)

Trocheck could probably have put up better stats elsewhere in his draft year and ended up going higher.

I don't know if you can throw Trocheck into the "underachieving" category (Stats are from time in Saginaw Only):

09-10: 43 pts, (Lower end talent team)
10-11: 62 pts, (Draft Year, Division winning team, Outscored Saad)
11-12: 85 pts, (Mid range talent team, 5 seed)
12-13: 50 pts, (Very young, inexperienced team, was on pace for 97 pts)

As you can see Vince has improved his numbers consitantly over his OHL career on various caliber Saginaw teams. Point being, it doesn't matter what kind of team he plays for, he produces. People just ignore Saginaw for some reason. If he was playing for say London his draft year and put up the same numbers, he would have been a first round pick.

I think it is because everyone questions how well he will translate to the next level. Even on the Team USA at the WJC his role wasn't really what it should have been right away. Almost a Brad Richards feel in that he seems to always have question marks about how good he will be even though he is never disappointing.

I think he will be an awesome top 6 guy in the NHL.

Haha both Richards and Trocheck were picked 64th overall in their draft years...

His size is a big question. I dont get to see him play much, how is his speed, forechecking, and defensive game?

If Florida drafts MacKinnon they would have MacKinnon, Bjugstad, Shore and Trocheck to go along with Matthias and Weiss at center. Not a bad situation to be in.

Huberdeau-Bjugstad-Mueller
Fleischmann-Trocheck-Shore
Howden-Matthias-Versteeg
Kopecky-Goc-Skille

That's going to be a sick forward group in 3-5 years

Add MacKinnon or Drouin to that group because we're not going to win again this season.

MacKinnon / Huberdeau

or

Drouin / Huberdeau

It isn't too farfetched to say that has the potential to be a top-ten offensive duo when both guys reach their prime. The state of the team weighs on that predication as well. I believe this franchise will be in a much better condition in a few years with prospects like Trocheck (Shore, Knight, Rau, Bjugstad, Grimaldi) behind a strong, offensive duo in the top-six.

Side note.

Trocheck is an awesome follow on twitter: @VT3

Vincent Trocheck - Potential

Is he the real deal or gonna be just a 3rd line at best? I haven't seen him play much so I would love to hear people's thoughts on who have seen him play more.

Edit: Sorry for typo in name if a mod can fix it would be nice ;)

I think he'll eventually replace Stephen Weiss. Both play the same position, similar stature, Plymouth Whalers alumni.

Nick Bjugstad is a rightie
So is Drew Shore, Rocco Grimaldi, Corbin Knight, and John McFarland who are all in our top 20 prospect list. Thats a lot of righties if you ask me in our pipeline (though McFarland hasnt done much and probably doesnt figure into the long term plans).
