I think signing an extension, yet just for one year means more like "interested, but not now". I mean, I think he could've easily signed a longer deal.

Because more likely than not Sharks aren't offering him a one-way deal and he doesn't want to risk playing in the AHL for 1/4 of the money he makes in Russia. A story as old as hills.

Semiannual check-in. Third-leading scorer for his team. Assume the ship has sailed with the Sharks. Any reason to believe another NHL club gives him a look?

I remember they were talking about signing or trading him in the summer but assume he prefers Russia or they couldnt find anything for him

Yeah, just a run-of-a-mill AHL guy doing good in Russia. With a contract until 2027. Unless he does something spectacular between now and then I think he will play out the rest of his career in Russia/Europe.
Who is interested in trading for an AHL guy who is asking for a one-way deal, and probably not the league minimum one either?
