Signed with the Sharks this week, scores his first goal in his first AHL game tonite.
I really am surprised he signed - how can he play in the AHL at 18 being drafted out of the CHL?? He can only play a few games this year correct, like an ATO? He cannot stay in the AHL...as far as I have known the rules to be..
he can sign with the Sharks which is fine, but he cannot play with them next year either. He did sign with the Sharks, but also is on an ATO with the Barracuda for the rest of the season.
SHARKS SIGN FORWARD ALEXANDER CHMELEVSKI | San Jose Barracuda

He can play with the Sharks but not the Barracuda. Will be interesting to see if he goes the over seas route next year. Does he benefit more from playing with men compared to staying with the 67’s...he can sign with the Sharks which is fine, but he cannot play with them next year either.
that is correct, I have no idea why I worded it like that...he is still NHL or CHL for next year and not AHL.He can play with the Sharks but not the Barracuda. Doug Wilson loves drafting 67's players. He's drafted seven 67's players over the last 14 years. He played his junior hockey for the 67's and he knows that Brian Kilrea is great at developing younger players. It's pretty cool that Sasha is a California kid too. So far looks like a steal in the draft. The 67's are also ranked #2 in the country, they're great this year.
I believe Kilrea's been completely uninvolved with them for the last ~8 seasons.

He doesn't have an official title anymore, but he is around the team a lot and provides advice/insight to the front office.

Chmelevski, Blichfeld, Checkovich
One of those three might just be our next Joe Pavelski

This kid should be getting way more hype than this. He looked great at the WJC.
