Beautiful B.C.
Lets start this new thread off on the right foot, this kids potential is sky high- think Locke mixed with Gagner, maybe sprinkle a little bit of luke schenn in there (they have comparable size and footspeed).

God i cant wait for this kid. hes gonna be the next Simon Gamache for sure.

He's no Robbie Schremp, that's for sure.

I mean, the very intelligent and esteemed scouts at HF have told me that the only reason Marner puts up points is because of his linemates. I countered by saying he's already put up 2ppg in the playoffs last year as a C playing with inferior linemates last year. The dignified scouts remained silent, but surely they know more than peasants like us! They are clearly correct.

Not only that, but apparently he has no elite skills either according to these respected scouts!

Alas, such noble scouts can never be wrong.

Unfortunately, for the Leafs, it seems as if they have chosen yet another bust. They already have enough busts in the likes of Kadri and Nylander, so it's sad to see another one that bites the dust.

Oh, how I wish we only had chosen Lawson "Good ol' Canadian boy" Crouse. Now, that's a true player!

I'd like someone to point out the non sarcastic or trolling posts where anyone has said Marner is anything less than a stud prospect? I see some wonder about his strength and that's legit. Other than that I see almost all of HF saying what a fantastic prospect and how skilled he is. Seems to be a bit of paranoia going on.

Just last thread after Marner got mem cup MVP a "scout" called him a cross between Schremp and Huberdeau and that he never saw a player more undeserving of all the MVPs. That was after multiple posters called him Gagner 2.0.

Not sure if they are still there put got removed but look at the last thread.

Many NHL teams would never have drafted Marner at 4th overall and there will always be detractors. In terms of comparisons Pat Kane is still the closest. The simple fact is that Marner can do things with the puck that very few people in the world can do. How that translates into points is anyone's guess but the kid has a high compete level and plays a 200 foot game so that certainly bodes well.

I like watching him; he makes the game look easy. Sometimes it looks like that is his biggest weakness - it is almost like his team is always leading by 7 goals against some low end team, and he wants to make the extra pass; no matter if it is the biggest game of his career.

I think Babcock and co. can reel in some of these tenancies; like getting stuck flat footed trying to play defense and implement a little more straight line structure. Don't kid yourself, I am loving his skill....but he has a lot to learn, and that is the best thing about it - he isn't done breaking down more of those "too small" "too weak" barriers.

Congrats to Mitch "Sam Ganger Jr." Marner on the season he had. Best prospect yet to play in the NHL right now.

The last thread has been sanitized. Wish I got to read it lol.

Love the kid; he is a superstar!

I'd say that honor goes to Matthews, with Marner battling for 2nd/3rd with Laine.

Unfortunately Detroit will have to play both of them so much :( . Thinking about them facing Ericsson makes me so sad.

Marner would have to grow like 3 feet to be a 'comparable size' to Luke Schenn.

I think the most disappointing part of the Memorial Cup was seeing that Marner needed help from Dvorak to actually lift the Cup.

Id say everyone knows he is a stud prospect and yes his only concern is his size and strength. Everything else is top notch. Training camp will be a tell all when it rolls around... VERY excited to see what happens

I see a lot of Kane and especially Gaudreau with Marner.

There's some concerns for me with his size, but this is a different NHL than the 90s. Plus, he plays in the less physical East, and his hockey IQ will prevent him from taking those massive trolley track hits.

I mean, Gaudreau rarely takes lots of punishment despite his small stature.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me Marner looks like a Giroux/Eberle hybrid. Thoughts?

My only knock on Marner as a Leaf fan is he does overpass sometimes. I imagine Babcock will help him iron out some kinks.

Psyched to see Marner and Matthews together long term.

Marner is at least 30 lbs heavier than schenn has ever been, that's why his foot speed is so slow and his lateral movement is non existent. Schenn will be a better winger than Mitch "aleskander suglobov" Marner

I've always liked the Giroux comparison more than the Kane one. Not that he's more of a centre than a winger, just watching him reminds me more of Giroux.

That's a decent comparable, but I see some others comparing him more to Corey Locke, Sam Gange or Simon Gamanche, I'm surprised Pat Falloon or Brian Sakic haven't been mentioned as comparables.

Personally as a Leaf fan l see him as a Daniel Briere (very good player in his prime) or a rich mans Ray Whitney (with more vision and playmaking ability)

I like the Ray Whitney comparison a player who had a terrific career. I would say Marner is a quicker skater. Not sure about the " more vision and playmaking ". The wizard was quite the playmaker. 118 assists in his draft year! 22 years in the NHL, over 1000 points, All Star. Not too shabby.

To leafs fans, where do you see Matthews, Nylander, Marner playing in the top 6? Obviously matthews would be the 1st line center but where do the other 2 slot in?
