C Red Savage - Michigan State (2021, 114th, DET)

Born May 15th, 2003, in Scottsdale, Arizona, Savage is a versatile forward, who can play just about any forward position. Primarily playing center, the 5’11” and 181-pound forward most recently played for the US National U18 team and the USNTDP in the USHL. For the U18 team, he produced 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points in 46 games. Meanwhile, for the USNTDP, Savage recorded 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 22 games.

Also playing in the U18 World Junior Championship with the United States, Savage wore the “C” as captain and recorded just one goal in 5 games. Overall, his performance and subsequent production have earned him a ranking as high as 43rd by McKeen’s Hockey and as low as 89th by Dobber Prospects. On my personal board, Savage ranks 23rd. While that may seem very high, his low rankings from other experts could be due to his not-so-great World Juniors performance more than anything else. Savage is committed to Miami University in Ohio for the 2021-22 season.

Well aware of the reasoning for shortening his name. I'm just hoping the OP or HF will decide racist language should not be allowed on their website. Read some of the comments, generational name? WTF is that implying. Otherwise, I've said my piece. Hope good angels live here.
Quit being so overly sensitive....that is the kids name and not your concern!

This kid as islanders written all over him. Love him.

They took the recent NTDP player who he's most similar to, Jake Pivonka, so you are right that the Islanders are probably a team that is closely considering Savage.

And before people reading this thread immediately go and look up that Pivonka has bad stats his first three years at Notre Dame, he's a 4th line center type of player. His stats don't matter that much. I think Savage is a little better than Pivonka offensively, but similar types of players, and I agree that its likely the Islanders are considering him after they took a very similar player from the same program only 3 years ago.

If Pivonka makes it he’s certainly going to be a bottom 6/4th line guy who plays a 2way game and kills penalties. I loved the Pivonka pick. I was really happy with the isles 2018 draft.

Back to Savage I agree he has more offensive upside. He’s also got an awesome motor.

i'd probably say he's a good fit for a 3-4C down the line. wish there were more players akin to his style of play

Blessed with one of the best names in the 2021 NHL Draft, Red Savage is the son of former NHLer Brian Savage. His older brother Ryan Savage is also playing high-level hockey. He is a defenceman playing NCAA Hockey for Miami of Ohio, and Red Savage is committed to joining him next year. Red Savage plays forward though, spending time at centre and left-wing this year. He spent this season playing for the United States National Team Development Program’s Under-18 team. Savage scored 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points in 46 games. Savage also put up one goal in five games, captaining Team USA at the IIHF Under-18 World Championships. Unfortunately, the American team was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

In 2019-20 Savage played for the NTDP Under-17 Team. He scored eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 30 games. He also played one game for the Under-18 team, picking up an assist. Savage and the Under-17 team represented Team USA at the U-17 World Hockey Challenge. He also helped the team to win the silver medal. Savage put up one goal and three assists for four points in six tournament games.

Came to read up on the newest Red Wing. Stayed to say that I hate your guts. Should the Red Wings also change their name?

Having a son and looking at the newly born baby and going with the name Red lol... Red Savage...

Love it!!

Edit - damn I ruined it cause his actual name is Redmond... I know a Redmond already haha

Seen an article that said they named him Redmond after asking their first son what they should name his new brother when he was born. The kid blurted out that he wanted him to be called “Big Red”

Also Brian has an account on here but he hasn’t used it in a very long time. So try and take it easy on the kid and maybe he’ll come back one day :p

How physical does he play? I watched a few u18 games but didnt really pay any attention to him

Into the transfer portal and I imagine he will end up at one of the big schools: DU, UM, UMD, UMN, UND, or uw.
