Byfield is playing 14:53 a game this year (i.e., over three-and-a-half minutes less than Vatrano). Your inane comparison to Vatrano doesn't even make sense on its own terms. Probably not shocking though when your shtick for the past several years has been to discredit Byfield as much as possible.
Kubalik last season had like 21 pts in his first 18 games or something like that playing around 16min a game.

Once again, bottom 6 players do have plenty of periods of high production.

Does that mean Byfield won’t keep it up, but it’s weird to suggest it never happens

There were several of us on the Kings board who were seeing Byfield’s progression last year despite what other posters were saying. That includes other Kings fans and especially Sens fans. I’ll be honest, the vindication is starting to feel really good. I prefer the type of player Byfield is over Stutzle‘s type. I’m not saying he’ll end up being better for certain but right now, I’m glad the Kings went with the player they went with.

Agreed. Stutzle is talented, but I don't have regrets over the Byfield pick.

The only way you would regret the Byfield selection is if you could guarantee Stützle developed at the same pace and became the player he did last year with the Kings, and the difference between 22-23 Byfield and 22-23 was the difference maker between them and a cup.

Which is very unlikely, both teams are happy with their guy. Funny enough, I don’t think Stützle becomes Stützle on LA and Byfield doesn’t become Byfield in Ottawa.

There is not a single team, including LA, who would skip Stutzle in a redraft. That’s not to say Byfield isn’t looking great right now, and he could certainly continue progressing into a top C if he keeps his compete level up.

I get why people bring these two up together based on draft position, but it’s a useless exercise. I say this as a fan of both players, and someone who has supported and continued to recognize Byfield’s talent even without his production last year.

No thanks. I'll stick with QB.

This isnt totally accurate lots of sens fans believe in Byfield. Yes there are some very petty extremely vocal sens fans out there but most of them are new or twitter keyboard warriors. This does not represent the majority of us. I am a sens fan that always believed in Byfield. I have been defending him and pumping his tires for 5 + years. It was apparent to me anyways after watching him in the OHL he was always going to end up being this type of player. The progression from year to year was obvious once he turned pro. I also suggested it was going to take longer due to his late birthday, his overall size, missed dev time due to covid and his skillset. He sure is a fun player to watch the skys the limit. Not sure why he always has to be compared to Stutzle either. Both can be great.

I certainly didn’t mean every Sens fan. Like the Kings fans, there were a few loud voices.

I do remember reading these comments on the boards late last year.

Great to see him break out!

Lol, you dug up a year old post because of a 17 game sample size? In which Byfield still didn’t even hit 1.0 point/game? You realize bottom-six guys have stretches as good or better than Byfield’s last 17 games every single season, right? We’ll see how things play out. For now the sample size is too small to draw any conclusions from, other than that he’s finally playing decent.

Also, you couldn’t wait more than 17 games to start gloating, how do you not see the irony in your post? lmao

Let’s revisit this at the end of the season.
Sample size or not, you still at one point legitimately stated Byfield is just not a good player. Which if you had even watched some his games last year you'd see the type of player he was.

You're the dude who doesn't even watch the player play and just glances at the stat sheet before making an inflammatory statement.

Just embarrassing

You are making an all too commom mistake made by people who over value stats and get caught up trying to deny reality based on numbers that don't mean what they think they do.

A player who plays on your top two lines is a top 6 player. That is the very definition. Vatrano is a top 6er in Anaheim, Byfield is a top 6er in LA.

You want to make your point, pick an ACTUAL bottom sixer. You know, a player who plays on a teams third or fourth line when they put up the points you want to discuss.

Nice power move tonight:

2 goals, 1 assist, +2 in limited minutes. Up to 8 goals, 21 points, +14 through 23 games, not bad!

Finally learned how to use his 6 foot 5 frame. Big guys usually develop slower.
All I can think of when seeing this clip is… Yeah, wonderful! The Cylons are becoming fully actualized.

So, why are we celebrating the hockey human downfall? Just think about the villages that will be burned!

EDIT: Just in case… :sarcasm:

Where the haters at now lol

Anyways why such low toi last night? Under 12 min ffs

Under 12 min toi is definitely “limited”
Lmao, a lot of dudes here are very 'special'

1) He plays in the first line.
2) He plays in the first PP unit.
3) LAK had a healthy lead early on yesterday, so EV times were more spread out between the 4 lines. Kopitar also had only 12:42 EV time.
4) They were shorthanded a lot yesterday and he didn't play on the PK.
5) They only had one PP, where he scored after 14 seconds.

So calm down dude, because lately he's been playing well over 15 minutes a game.
