Compare to Crosby at 14

Cool.

Barber also looks amazing when just stickhandling in practice with all the time in the world. He’s barely Junior A quality in actual hockey games.

I hate threads like this so much. Maybe he is the next Gretzky, but posting a couple videos of him stickhandling around literal pylons is not going to convince anyone.

You say that, but it's bringing him some notoriety... otherwise there wouldn't be a thread about him. That's possibly a favour.

Aito Iguchi is probably one of the best known 2021 Draft prospects but all his internet notoriety wont help him getting drafted. If this kid is a legit player he wont need any adverisement. Good prospects get noticed all on their own if their performance on the ice merits it. Not to mention that he isnt eligible to be drafted for another 5 years or so. Just let him be a kid at that age.

As far as nationwide media coverage in Canada:
Gretzky was 10
Lemieux was 12
Bobby Orr was 14 when he signed with the Bruins
That's 3 of the greatest of all time. (and probably the only 3 who are on everybody's top 5 ever list).
Didn't seem to harm them at all to be known as hockey prodigies.
Just putting it out there.....

They were also leading their leagues in scoring playing against competition 3-4 years older, not 9th in their own ages peewee league in scoring.

Oh yeah of course. Not saying this kid is remotely in that class or something, just that a inordinate number of players who were (to become) amongst the best ever were identified at a very young age. Didn't seem to harm them any.
I probably should have quoted Butch's post because i was responding to his post.
I think the effect of early media and public hype is pretty over-rated, both in positive and negative outcomes.

A local news article or a even a small piece in the national media for those guys is consumed as a quick story and quickly forgotten, until it is brought up once they make it. I mean Mitch Marner had a CP24 piece at like 4. The internet has dramatically changed how people track prospects and consume media. Instead of being known locally as the hyped kid who didn’t make it if it fails, it will be insanely well documented on the internet and by all prospect hockey followers

I personally don’t think it is healthy or good to put that type of pressure on a 13 year old. It seems immoral to pimp a kids passion for insta followers.

If the kid is legit, he plays in Quebec, he’ll be noticed and drafted. If anything, I would think hype accounts like this would actually hurt him in the eyes of scouts (although most will readily blame the parents, coaches or whoever is feeding into this). The hockey world is relatively small, he plays in a region that is heavily scouted. The skills guy is just using this kid to push his brand. It strikes me as morally bankrupt.

I just remembered something, one journalist for Le Journal de Québec ranks the top Pee-Wee players every year before the Quebec International Pee Wee tournament. I just looked up this year's list and Veilleux is not on it. Of course this list is not the end-all, be-all, but it is usually backed by coaches and people in the know.

For the record, Zachary Morin is on it, a player whom a thread was started on here by someone else just a couple weeks ago.

Holy f***, this guy is the most skilled 13 year old I have ever seen by far! He may be the most impressive stickhandler in the world regardless of age.

It may be early, but is this the next generational talent?

Are you his dad

Well done to the creator of the subject. Philippe Veilleux has just started in QBAAA and produces more than 3 points per game. However, another player does even better (Shawn Carrier). Zachary Morin and Nathan Lecompte already play in QMAAA. These 4 offensive players in Quebec have very rare statistics for 14-year-old players. The QMJHL 2023 draft promises to be exciting.

It would be great for the Canadian national team if Quebec could become a force again. I don’t mean this as hate in any way to our Quebecois friends here, but I think it is fair to say the Q has been disappointing in terms of churning out elite talent as of late. We especially need the next great French Canadian goalie to emerge here!

Has anybody seen the kid play this year ?

36 pts in 20 games is actually impressive

Sure. Saw him play live a few times. High IQ offensive player with incredible goal scoring instincts and skill. Very agile but lacks speed and is about 5'6 I'd say. I like him quite a bit, should be drafted in the first two rounds in the Q. For the NHL, we're stretching big time at this point, no way to know if he'll ever get drafted, it's too early but he has talent.

Carrier is around 5'8 actually. I think he's the best of the 3 long term. Great hockey sense and compete level. Morin is the safest to project with his size, power and shooting ability, but I really like Carrier as a two-way playmaking center.

If I had to say in Quebec the best 2007 players are Nathan Lecompte, Zachary Morin, Shawn Carrier, Caleb Desnoyers and Alex Huang on defense.

Interesting

what about 06 Justin Poirier?

it’s rare a first year leads midget AAA in points

Very talented goal scorer who plays with a lot of energy. The 5'7 - 180 lbs is a bit scary in terms of development left to do physically. But high talent level.

He's 14. Most people grow until they are 16 - 17.

When I was 14, I was the biggest kid in my class. When I was 18, I wasn't. Lots of people catch up.
