And the assist was shorthanded! Tied with Krüger for the team lead in points now.
Its funny because he’s 14 years younger.

Ohgren and Lekkerimaki combined have one more point than Ostlund. They’ve played 29 combined games to his 15.

But that’s none of my business. I’ll leave the scouting to the coach of the WJC team.

Today I learned that Ostlund works with Tim Kennedy as his development coach with the Sabres. Hopefully Tim is better at development decisions than he is at filing for arbitration decisions.

HA is low scoring so far, only 8 ppg players (maybe a couple more with few games played).
17 2 9 11 with +4 and 15:28 toi/g is pretty good.

Twins? Brothers? Lack of last names in Sweden?

Seems like he's playing with Lekkerimäki and Lekkerimäki today.

Looks like they put the kids back together - Ohgren now out there with them.
It’s a mercy to Ohgren and Lekkerimaki. Without them Ostlund had 11 points. they also had 11 Without him. Combined.

My comparables would be...
Henrik Zetterberg
William Karlsson
Rasmus Asplund
Samuel Påhlsson

He's far behind Z and Karlsson right now but all of those guys were pretty strong at a young age (for being Swedes) Östlund isn't but is still able to keep up in a league that has evolved to being much more physical and defensive. This is not the same league as Dahlén slaughtered as a prospect.

If Östlund can handle the HA-playoffs, spend a season in the SHL and then build up his body in the AHL he could evolve like a freakin' pokémon.

I see Saku Koivu.

I didn't watch him as a prospect but he's a good comparable in terms of potential. I see Östlund added to so many trade proposals but he seems like the ideal prospect to me. At worst he's a cheap and effective bottom 6 forward at a time when we will have many players with hugh cap huts, at best he's a selke caliber playmaker. I can't see him busting/not making the NHL unless he suffers a Possler level injury.

Noah Ostlund (F, Buffalo Sabres): Flowing. Worked some good give-and-gos with Ohgren in transition. Shot (and game/frame) could use some power/strength. Doesn’t seem to quite have the finishing. Great stick on steals. So slippery on angles, changes of directions and cutbacks.

Looked like he just started to get going in the semis/bronze game. Promotion playoffs will be the real test for him. If he does well he's got the clutch-gene.

You're referring to Djurgarden getting promoted back to the SweHL, correct?
Yup, pressure during those games is extreme. Promotion/relegation is pretty much the worst for fans and players. If you win you are just relieved, if you lose you are completely crushed and players carry those memories as well.

He had a decent tournament. Really good 200 foot game. It’s nice that we have the depth to slow cook these guys. I could see him being a nice NHL player with 2 or 3 years of development.
Looking forward to the 2025-26 season!
