Glad to seem him choose the BCHL, I will get to see him live.

Yes, very surprised he choose SP. He didn't choose his hometown team or any of the powerhouses. Guenther played there for 4 games lol, not known for their alumni
Also had both Savoies and Benning, Mathew was covid like Guenther though haha.

He wasn’t named to Hockey Canada’s U-17 camp. I doubt this was an omission on Hockey Canada’s part, so I think it’s fair to say he’s leaning towards representing the USA? Or is it because he’s going BCHL?

Last time I checked hockey Canada and the BCHL were having a pissing match, Kosick is good enough to be invited but not so good that his omission is all that glaring either.

Do you think Kosick is good enough to play in the USHL full time as a 16 year old, or do you think the BCHL is a better first year junior spot for him and then he can move on once he's outgrown it?

He is very slight and I'd be worried that he might get the Savoie- Lohrei headhunting treatment in the USHL.

Plus I can watch him in the BCHL but I usually plan to go to games but my work/life schedule doesn't' work out.

The BCHL is going to have a lot of interesting players to watch this year.

For the 100th time, that wasn’t headhunting. Not every illegal hit is a purposeful attempt to take someone’s head off.

Also, people made fun of Lohrei being some bum that supposedly wanted his 10 minutes of fame. Is Savoie even projecting to be the better NHL’er between the two?

Seems likely that he's going to be playing for Sioux Falls in the USHL, and not Sherwood Park in the BCHL. No points, 3 sog in his first preseason game with Sioux Falls, where his team lost 2-1, outshooting the other team 41-20.

CHL/NCAA rules are changing. He gets the best of both worlds. Better competition in the WHL, then off to the NCAA. Only question is how long does he "have" to stay in the WHL before he can go to Michigan?

Jeff seems to be speculating there. CHL easily agreeing to let their good players jump ship to NCAA seems unlikely. Is Kosick going to have to wait until 20 years old? If so, why is he even worth discussing now if he’s that bad?

He had 1+0 in his first 4 USHL games. Not a great start, but really worth jumping ship so quickly?

yeah there's still so much unknown about how it'll look when Major Junior players can leave for NCAA. Most kids don't actually play NCAA until 20 anyway other than high nhl picks.

These kids are closer to it than we are. If he wanted WHL over USHL but also wants college, that's why he was in SF. Now he clearly knows he'll be able to go to Michigan if he wants to bounce now rather than wait.

If he was so plugged in, why even show up to the USHL? Wouldn’t he have known what was coming from the NCAA?

Seems more like he’s jumping ship based on his stint in the USHL, not some future plan.

I think you're overthinking this.
So you're saying this kid read some news on social media, decided that he didn't even care what the details amounted to, and he was going to take some risk on what might be the best case scenario for him of what the eventual details could be?

Maybe that's what his decision amounted to. If so, I don't think he's very smart or well advised.

I think anyone who has followed this saga closely over the past year (!) has known that change is coming. The NCAA even released a statement saying changes would be coming into effect on August 1, 2025.

We all knew this was coming. Kosick knew, the Hitmen knew, the WHL knew, the USHL knew. Kosick's agent might even have intel on it that we don't. Now that the NCAA went public with it, what reason does Kosick have to stay in South Dakota when he could play in Calgary, in a superior league, surrounded by superior talent, and an NHL building? None.

So if someone says to you, I got a contract for you to buy a car, are you going to sign onto it without knowing what’s in the contract?
