Shero and the Devils clearly made the right choice. Can't wait to see Nico improve. Kid is already working his way up the lineup.

Too early to say they made the right choice but so far Nico definitely looks more like an impact player than Patrick.

Definitely need to pump the brakes. The season hasn't even started.
I agree 100%.

I've watched the both of them a lot during the preseason games and while Nico was more impressive so far, it really doesn't mean much since it was preseason.

Patrick is a big strong, smart two way center with a fantastic shot. If he could improve his skating he could be a real force out there.

Nico looks great so far.

As a Swiss and a Bruins fan, a 1-2 Calder of Hischier - McAvoy would be a dream. Let's hope the NHL doesn't jinx this one with this article...

With preseason being over for both players...

Hischier Patrick
4 Games 7 Games
4 Goals
0 Goals
3 Assists 3 Assists
11 Shots 9 Shots

Only preseason, and obviously still early, but I didn't expect their early returns to be this lopsided.

I still remember the narrative that Hischier was only the #1oa pick because Patrick got hurt and not his own play.

Why not? Patrick is in Angelo Esposito territory with regards to injuries. Missing as much time as he had with the injuries he had at that age, AND jumping from a teenage league to the NHL after coming back, it's beyond unlikely for him to run away with it. If he becomes the Ryan Murray of forwards that's already a success.

I think the Calder race is locked between Nico and Keller. They both have a very good surrounding core's and are going to be put in situations to truly excel. Nico has Hall, Palmieri, Henrique, MoJo, Stafford, Zacha, Greene, and Severson all there to help him. Keller has Domi, Stepan, Dvorak, Rieder, and OEL. Having a great supporting cast and their skill will help them become stars in this league.

EDIT: Nico has Zajac too

I wouldn't look to much into it, especially considering their roles in preseason. Hischier was put in a much better situation to produce. Even if they were put in identical situations, I still would have expected Hischier to be better this season because of his skating ability.

Hischier had a great preseason with some fortunate puck luck, but anything can happen in preseason so it's really not too shocking.

Patrick is playing with Wayne Simmonds now, so it's not like he's playing with scrubs. We'll see what happens

The media hype about him back here in Switzerland is pretty insane right now. Every newspaper, online outlet, radio station etc. is doing a piece on Nico. A lot of swiss people will be watching him tomorrow. I hope he will have a good game. Might be do a lot for the popularity of the NHL in Switzerland...
