C Nick Cousins (2011, 68th, PHI)

Cousins called up to the Flyers.

21 goals - 34 Assists - 55 Points (5th in AHL) at the time of his call up. Hope he gets in some games.

He should play his first NHL game tomorrow in Vancouver.

hasn't been much talk with him...Been solid the past 2 years in AHL quietly putting up 94pts. in 102 games and 118 pims.

Currently with the Flyers now and has 4 points in 11 games and has been impressing a lot of Flyer fans.

Can anyone comment on him that have watched him this year with Philly and/or Lehigh Valley? just judging by his stats and comments from fans, it looks like he is becoming a real solid prospect

I think he's a solid all around prospect that doesn't do anything extremely well. Maybe best comparison is a smaller, poor man's brayden schenn

I was shocked to see how well he has been in the minors. Had no idea he has been averaging that close to ppg his past couple years in the AHL

Phantoms best player when he was in the AHL.

Some Flyers fans feel he's a AHL/NHL tweeter but I've been a fan. I think he has solid bottom 6 potential.

Hope he is successful. Could be a nice 3rd liner for the Flyers but I don't think he will become anything more than that.

Quite a bit of info

Aka

One incident that was debunked

No reasonable prospect of conviction is not the same thing as debunked. It's notoriously difficult to prosecute sexual assaults and rapes. It doesn't mean he's guilty, it doesn't mean he's innocent either. Unfortunately these situations are frequently murky. It doesn't help that was a bit of a dick in juniors. That said, he was also a teenager. All he can do moving forward is be a good teammate and keep his nose clean.

He's done everything right as a pro so far. He looks like a player. His skating is much better than advertised, as is his skill level, and he's both gritty and smart. I'm pulling for him.

The Carter trade was quite the haul: Voracek, Couturier, & now Cousins.

I always liked Cousins. A lot of Flyers fan wrote him off because of his skating, but he showed a massive improvement in his second AHL season vs first and seems to have the smarts, confidence and most importantly work ethic to contribute sooner or later.

Agreed. He looks like he did in Jr. Other team trying to kill him; he ends up with points.

Saw him a lot in LV (I live in the area) and he's been impressive with the Phantoms. Good playmaking, good shot, feisty, and has improved his skating.

My concern, however, is that he's not going to replace anyone in the top 6 on the Flyers so will he be able to be useful in the bottom 6? He's an offensive player, he produces at the AHL level and so far he's done very well in the NHL, but he's replaced Couturier in the top 6 since the injury. Once Couturier comes back Cousins will drop down to a lesser line with less icetime and worse linemates, will he be able to produce offense? If he can't, then I don't see a spot for him since he's nothing special defensively and doesn't really seem like what you ideally want in a 3C or 4C.

Id love to be wrong here, I truly want him to work out and I'd love to be able to say I was wrong a year or two for rom now, but I have doubts. Id also caution people to not look to far into a short burst of production and expect it to last. He's scored lately and people have gotten really excited, but then if he goes through a rough patch people will turn on him, same as they did with Laughton and they do when Schenn struggles or when Simmonds struggles or when Voracek struggles... or even if Giroux has a dry patch. Gotta keep the big picture in mind.

Hakstol seems to have a lot more confidence in Cousins than he ever has with Laughton which is a good sign for Nick. He's played Cousins on the PP, 4v4, 3v3 OT, and now shootouts. Played 17 minutes last night. I'm still in wait and see mode, but his play of late has been encouraging.

Very sample size for Cousins, but has impressed. I would love to see him stick at 3C when Couturier comes back. Maybe laughton on the wing ?
