Marner without a doubt in my mind, will be a winger in the NHL.

A dam good one, however the hunt for a top line center continues.

He'll look good setting up Auston Matthews from the wing! :sarcasm:

I think whether Marner plays centre at the next level will depend on who we draft in the next couple of years. Right now, the only legit centre prospect we have is Nylander, no one else comes close. And if you want to be a winning team, you need depth down the middle. If we get say one of the Finns or Chychrun in 16 and another top winger/d-man in 17, then I think Marner will be built as a centre. He's capable of playing both; I think there doubt, it just depends on the centre depth chart in the next 3 years or so.

Marner kind of plays like a centre but he's really not strong enough to be one at the moment.

With Matthews you are set. Marner will be where I think he is best and that's on the wing.

Matthews
Nylander
Kadri
Gauthier

Don't think I'd want Kadri as a 3C, I'd likely deal him for defensive help or something.

The 1,2 and 4 centres are nice though.

Even moving Kadri to the wing could be a legit option moving forward.

The talent level of this kid is insane to watch. Whether he plays wing or centre, the leafs have a very special talent here.

I was very surprised by the amount of unwarranted hate he was receiving from fans of other teams during the WJC. Now I'm realizing that was just jealousy and sour grapes.

Kind of foolhardy to put Matthews and Nylander as the team's immediate #1 and #2 centers. Long-term is a different story. Makes keeping Kadri as a sheltering option that much more important. All the Leafs need to address now is the defense and finding a long-term answer in net. The wings can easily be addressed.

JVR-Matthews-Marner
Leipsic-Nylander-Kapanen
Timashov-Kadri-Brown
Winnik-Gauthier-Komarov

not withstanding Soshnikov, Leivo, Johnson, Hyman, Bailey, Bracco... it's tons of unaccountable potential with the upcoming forward group.

I couldn't agree more. Long term that would likely be the case, but next year it would probably be Kadri, Matthews and Nylander respectively. With all of them getting significant powerplay time.

I think the chances that there will be 8 current Leafs prospects (including Matthews) on their forward roster as the same time is pretty low. Teams usually like to have more than 1 player who is over the age of 23-24 in their top 6. You have to account for UFA signings that will inevitably happen.

JVR - Stamkos - Marner
Laine - Nylander - Kapanen
Komarov - Kadri - Brown
Winnik - Gauthier - Leipsic

Rielly and the rest lol

:D

That third line looks like it has all the makings of a top pest line haha. Lepsic on the 4th line seems a bit out of place but the rest looks pretty good. What happens if we get Stamkos and Matthews, what does that lineup look like? (lol it's not that likely we get either but fun to speculate)....

Couple solid games has Marner scoring again.

20 pts in 12 games - October (Slow start)
27 pts in 10 games - November (Hit his stride)
11 pts in 3 games - December (Was scorching the leagues)
15 pts in 11 games - January (A rough January, was a step behind when he came back from the world Jrs)
9 pts in 3 games - February (Getting back into his pre-tournament stride)

If Marner can stay between 2.5 to 3.0 PPG for the rest of the year it'll be damn near impossible for the Leafs to send him back to Jr's again.

Jesus Christ haha

In before "Marner will never be able to do that against NHL D-men or else he will get destroyed"
