That would make him one of the best players in the NHL, so "bad" shouldn't even be uttered along with that prediction.

I do expect him to be one of the best in the NHL, so yes that's what I expect out of him. Anyone who takes 70pts as a bad thing just doesn't understand hockey today.

I will just say one thing as I agree expecting 70 points a year may be unrealistic, but 70 is not Marner's ceiling. He has probably the highest ceiling of any prospect not playing in the NHL.

Nylander/Marner is going to be amazing to watch

While Dylan Larkin is having a great rookie season that no one saw happening, I would not trade Marner for him based on that.

Pretty unreasonable to say no one saw it coming. Yes no one saw him going PPG or whatever, but many had him rated a much better prospect than Nylander/Ehlers.

As a Leaf fan, I expect Nylander to do exactly or even close to what Larkin is doing, so I guess saying that no one saw it coming is kinda false.

Watching the development and potential of players like William Nylander and Mitch Marner makes me wonder one thing, why the heck did it takes the Leafs this long to start a full rebuild?

Thank the hockey gods for Brendan Shanahan & Company! :handclap:

Not to rain on that parade, but Nylander and Rielly had nothing to do with Shanahan.

Shanahan was on board by the time we drafted Nylander and he may of given a directive to draft the guy who best fit his vision for the team (speed, skill and possession). Scouts while trying to create a big board try to incorporate the vision for the team sent down from the top, so the vision he outlined could of been key in taking a guy like Nylander over the more typical Nonis/Burke style pick of Ritchie. Also, the scout who probably had the biggest say in the Nylander pick is one of the few who survived the Shanahah/Hunter purge.

There was also a real animated discussion at the draft table when the Nylander pick was made. I think it was because the Leafs didn't expect Ehlers to be still there at 8. I agree Shanahan may have instructed Morrison in which type of player to look for. But I don't think Burke should be known as just a Ritchie guy. He drafted Kadri and Rielly also in the 1st rd. If anything I think Nonis and the Gauthier pick, may be more indicting. Burke and Morrison in there time here showed more versatility. But I would mostly agree, Nylander was a Morrison with Shanahan input pick.

He drafted Biggs in the first and grit guys like Kenny Ryan and Brad Ross with early seconds. He seemed to basically just give Bergman a late pick to use, but never drafted a euro in the 1st during his reign and I don't think he has since the Sedins. Rielly, Kadri, and Brown seem to be the bright spots of his draft tenure here. Burke was a decent drafter high before coming to Toronto but he always went heavy on CHL (Bryan Allen, Bobby Ryan, Nathan Smith) and NCAA talent (Umburger, Schneider, and Kessler) with those picks.

the word was that if neither of nylander/ehlers were there, they would've traded down, and larkin was the target. They reportedly had a deal from the blues on the table.

wrong^

but he does have two points today

ppg means points per game. Unless you meant for the day of Sunday February 7th, in which yes, he is 2ppg

well back to back 4 point games, seems to be back in his groove after a slow January (by his standards).
