He reminds me of Chris Kreider at the same age.

A compliment or a diss depending on your view of Kreider.

I actually like Kreider.

Having said that, I don't really see them as that similar. I think McLeod has better hockey sense and is a better skater. I think Kreider may have a grittier and more confrontational style than McLeod does.

I should point out...you mentioned "at the same age". At McLeod's age, Kreider was playing at an MA prep school...and I didn't watch him then. So I probably can't compare them both in their draft year.

If you have a Stud#1 C, Mcleod would be a perfect #2C to me. Saw him plenty in Mississauga this year. He won't shortchange you in all areas of the ice and effort.

I do believe if you have to depend on him as your #1C, he will not produce consistently enough for your team to win, but as a very strong all around #2C he can contribute and provide a blanket of secondary scoring that will compliment a true elite #1C.

He's not going to be a bad pick, if expectations are reasonable, just don't expect him to be a Franchise or #1C.

How would be stack up against Christian Dvorak and Ryan MacInnis in terms of ranking them for the long-term? What order would you please them in for NHL effectiveness over their careers?

Dvorak is an interesting name. I do think Mcleod if he slips into 10+ this draft will look like the wiseguy's choice as the terrific value pick that should have gone higher in a redraft, due to I anticipating Nylander and Bastien to all be back next season with the Steelheads.

It could be a monster draft +1 year for all 3 next season. And I do think Mcleod's stats will jump substantially as Dvorak's did in his draft + 1 season.

I think you are really underrating Kreider's skating. He's right up there for best skater in the NHL, and when you consider he's 6'3 230 and really hard to stop once he gets going, he might be the best.

McLeod is a very good skater, that similarity he has with Kreider, but I don't think their playing styles are all that alike.

McLeod should be a top 20 pick. I think he'll be a good player. I just wouldn't take him top 10 because I don't think he has significant offensive potential.

I'd take him over Macinnis, over Dvorak is a tougher one. Dvorak exploded in his 2 post draft years and probably has emerged as a top 25 guy in the 2014 class. I think McLeod is a safer bet to carve out an NHL career as a center due to his elite skating and work ethic, but Dvorak has shown a lot more offensively than McLeod has. I'd probably gamble on McLeod given the Leafs current situation (for example if at the Pitt pick we had the option of McLeod or trading that pick for Dvorak), but I can understand why anyone would take the otherside. All these guys play for the OHL teams I try to watch the most, along with Erie and Sarnia this year.

You're clearly just stat watxhing then because he has front line tools.
Well I actually haven't been but nice assumtion.

He's got speed and good IQ, his hands are decent but nothing outstanding and his shot leaves some to be desired, I think he could be a 2nd line center if everything goes right but not a high impact player. Maybe he could be like a Mike Fisher type of player which would be a great pick in the 2nd half of the first round.

Any chance he's converted to the wing at the pro level?

Could be an intriguing pick for a team like NYI, whom already has a 1C and loads of potential upfront.

Watched each of these players quite a bit live over the past few seasons and Dvorak ranks at the top, followed by McLeod then MacInnis (I'm not as high on him as some people are).

Dvorak just brings an outstanding well-rounded game. Kudos to Arizona for making such a smart selection. He'd be a lock for Top 20 if there was a re-draft (maybe even top 10).

McLeod to me seems like the "safe" pick. He probably won't be a #1C but he will most likely end up a very good #2 guy and if he doesn't reach that he probably will still end up a good #3 C. I can see him dropping a bit as teams go for guys with higher upside, all that being said Minnesota, Detroit and Nashville(15,16 and 17) seem like good spots for him to go to

I think he might go higher. Size and speed don't slump.

I've just seen him a couple times. Would Matt Cullen be a good comp?

Kesler I've heard as a comparable for his upside. Speedy, two-way centre with good face-off ability but who doesn't have that elite offensive level. I like that comparable for McLeod.

Or anywhere near the quality wrist shot that Kesler has, as I've wrote a few times.

seafoam, putting him on the wing takes away from his primarily value. The guy is a shutdown C.

Kesler's wrist shot was average when he entered the league - didn't develop a good one until his mid 20s after working at it hard one offseason.

McLeod wishes his wrist shot was average. Not only that, but he often refuses to shoot, which makes him extremely predictable. NHL defences will figure him out quickly.

Also, considering Kesler's numbers in his first few years were pretty underwhelming, it kind of proves the point.

MM has a very good backhand though.
