I would just let him keep doing what he's doing right now and not change anything. He doesn't need any NHL games this year but maybe he ends up getting a few if there are injuries to any top-6 guys before Kane comes back. He's a good example of being patient if a guy isn't clicking right away in a new league, cause he's been really turning it on lately.

He's now getting used to the pro game and taking off. Kinda presumed it would take him about 3 months. He was injured too often last year. Expect a ton of points through the new year. He's definitely ready for the NHL but they should let him ripen in the A for another couple of months.

He should certainly get a cup of NHL especially if we continue to play Connor Brown on top line and guys like Podkolzin and Kapanen with Draisaitl.
We wouldn't want him to get disgruntled like Broberg. Call him up if he deserves a look

So when does Edmonton give him a look? The run he's on is pretty impressive - 10 points in 4 games, 12 in 6; five multi-point nights in that stretch. I haven't seen any Bakersfield games - barely able to watch U20's and the odd Amerks game - so I'm curious what Oiler fans who are getting eyes on him think.

I think my post above still rings true.
The Oil have more or less written in stone that his ETA is going to as a Skinner/Arvidsson replacement once their contracts are up (or they're on IR).

Now Skinner's more or less already played his way off the team, but his role is has been filled by Kapanen, so the fact there's still 2 short-term offensive wingers ahead of Matt still rings true. At most, he'll likely get a few games at the end of the season if the team rests a couple guys.

But it is nice to see him clicking with the team's top centre (Pederson), and he is very much the one stirring the drink with Pederson and Caggiula. This has also let Bakersfield drop Griffith (their long-time go-to offensive driver) down to the 2nd line, and he's helped Philp and Jakob Perreault have a nice run offensively at the same time.

It looks like he's going to get an audition with the big club. He practiced with the Oilers today and was apparently on Draisaitl's wing alongside Podkolzin. He has a golden opportunity since neither Arvidsson nor Jeff Skinner have lived up to expectations even though Skinner has been much better of late.
showcasing him?

Or a clear cost controlled young top 4 RHD.
This would be the only thing that would make sense other that us getting a clear overpay in return.
Doubtful. Oilers need cheap scoring, and if he can be a top-9 W, he has lots of value to EDM. EDM would need to be getting a cost-effective top-9 W in return. It's possible, but I think it's unlikely.
Why move him for a similar player that is older and not connected to the city? Dealing him for a top 9 winger would be a waste. As part of a return on a top line guy that could work. Best case we keep him and he becomes a viable cheap top 6 option for the next 2 1/2 seasons.

He’s had a great development year. I’ve watched a bunch of AHL games and he’s really improved in leaps and bounds. He pushes play much more aggressively than he did at the start of the year. Top 30 in AHL points. Definitely time for a look-see.
Thanks for the assessment! What would you say his strengths have been and what do you think that he needs to work on the most to transition to the NHL full time? I haven't seen any games this year just highlites and his play in camp.

To be honest I don’t think he’s quite ready yet. But I generally viewed him earlier as a potential high end complementary piece - mostly because of his lack of size tbh. But many of the games I watch him play he kind of excels at being a main guy. He’s actually a degree more physical than he was in junior, especially in the corners. Plus you can see his play type is one that is accentuated by playing with better players. He’s a pretty fast learner and, frankly, a natural at the game. So with experience he’s truly only going to improve. So that’s why I think he’s ready for a look-see. He’s never going to be a selke candidate. But I’m less concerned about his defensive side at this juncture.

Thanks. I like that we're giving him a taste of NHL hockey so that even if he isn't ready he knows what he'll need to improve on to get there in the relatively near future. His defensive side sounds like it's been one of his biggest strengths considering he's a rookie pro. I believe he leads Bako in +/- at -16.
