Fred Poulin of the Hockey Writers (rank 42nd)*had this to say:“A smooth skater with a great on-ice vision, Jankowski is a very creative player that can score goals and distribute the puck to his line-mates. The skilled pivot is very patient with the puck and his high hockey sense helps him create offense for his team-mates. â€
Kirk Luedeke of the New England Hockey Jounal said“The book on Jankowski is that he’s a point-producing machine for little Stanstead College, a Quebec boarding school, thanks to his high-end hockey sense and rapidly developing skill set. A rangy skater with a long, smooth stride and sublime on-ice vision, Jankowski turned heads in March at the Spring Beantown Classic showcase in Marlboro, Mass.â€
Apparently pre-draft, unbiased scouting reports love his great hockey sense.
Jankowski has acquitted himself quite well at the Flames development camp and now at the Team Canada camp. The flexibility and ability to contribute at all forward positions must have impressed the team. His big body, speed and ability to control the puck were sorely missed in the beat down at the hands of the Americans. The Flames took a lot of abuse for taking this kid, but he has turned into a very pleasant surprise. He has an amazing skill level and really just needs to build some confidence that he can use that big body to his advantage. He is definitely a much better prospect than many on this site are willing to admit and his stock just continues to rise with each viewing his naysayers have.

It is easy to jump on the bandwagon and criticize Jankowski because he has not shot the lights out during his first year in college. He is in good company. I remember another big tall center named Lemieux who was criticized mercilessly until he grew into his body. They called him lazy, disinterested and overrated.
I am not saying Jankowski will be another Lemieux but I just wanted to demonstrate just how short sighted writing a player off before they are anywhere near their actual playing size is.
They said he is a project and he comes as advertised. I am willing to give the kid some time to grow and develop before writing him off. I would say his potential is much better than 7.5. I believe time will demonstrate that.

That Jankowski thread made before the 2012 draft had him slotted in the late first round. He's getting all this heat because it was Calgary that took him. His grade is fine as is.

Why, because he was allowed to play in the AHL at 19?
The guy was 17th in team scoring with 17 points in 61 games, hardly a great looking prospect at this point.
Jankowski has far more upside and potental.
The phrase 'higher upside' often really means that the player has a lot of work to do. I don't really see Jankowski as having a higher upside than a lot of other prospects but he definitely has to work on a number of things at this point. That is why he was a bit of a reach at the time he was picked. 7.5 as the upside seems quite fair to me.

Skating and Vision to name 2, remember this kid isn't 19 yet and he'll probably end up at 6'4 210-220lbs so size could matter as well.

You seem to be very determined to get a rise out of someone overly-defending a prospect, and just waiting to pounce on that.
Feaster's comments are over-blown in these boards. Had Feaster not opened his mouth like he did at the draft, Jakowski would just be what he is - a project pick with high-upside.
You don't agree with the pick? Fine. You can't see the upside? Fine. However, don't pretend that there were zero scouting services placing this guy as early as the late 1st round, and most had him in the 2nd round.
There has already been direct quotes posted as to his hockey IQ, skating and skill. You seem intent on discrediting those. What else do you want? You made your point. How about waiting another few years to see if your point was valid? What else do you want here?
Draft re-rank from last year has whatever consensus it was at Jankowski at #25. It is more than obvious that you haven't watched this prospect at all, or you wouldn't be questioning his high hockey IQ and super soft hands. Those are not the issue AT ALL with respect to this prospect.

It doesn't matter what his score is anyway since after he enters the league, HF will change their rating system to "Jankowskis".
For instance, Barkov would probably receive a .85B Jankowski, meaning he's close to being a complete Jankowski, but could drop a rank.

He's not going to get to 220. The kid is a beanpole and so is his dad. I could see him playing around 200.

He is a classic ectomorph. Guys that skinny and tall who bloomed so late always have incredible difficulty putting on weight. They usually can not put on weight until their mid 30's.
As far as this thread is concerned.. this is about the most ridiculous over-hyped prospect I've ever heard of. How many other prospects get an 8 or 9 rating without actually dominating in college or junior? Why are Flames fans even focused on this guy? The Flames probably have 5 prospects ahead of him in their own system.
Oh and BTW the only reason he was invited to Team Canada's camp is because his uncle is the head scout and Mackinnon and Drouin skipped the exhibition games.
7.5 D is accurate.. the most I'd change is to a 7.5 C

Saw this guy play against BC last year. At time he's the best player on the ice and other time you notice him very little. He definitely has all the tools to become an elite NHL Center. Time will tell but Flames Fans have reason to be excited. I would be excited if the Sabers had him in there system. He just a prospect that takes time.

Where's the hate in that post? He put up a couple of points against a terrible team.
That goal is a beauty, and reminds me of the highlights everyone saw of him before the 2012 draft, hopefully it's a sign to come that he's getting his mojo back, but until we start seeing moves like that against actual competition there's no reason to get too excited over a 2 point game.
