Dick Axelsson i bekant kedja – William Eklund får ny roll i Djurgården

Eklund's back with Djurgården now, and is getting a new role: he'll play center. Will play between Rakhshani, & Carey(with both of them out sick he's practicing with the 04's Lekkerimäki, & Öhgren). Carey is expected to be back thursday, but not Rakhshani, so we could see Lekkerimäki on Eklund's right.

Nichlas Falk(Djurgården's head coach) says Eklund at C is "a little exciting actually, I think"

I'm really happy with how well Edvinsson is turning out right now, but man do I hate that Detroit missed out on Eklund. Especially considering he's being converted to center. I know there was worry that he'd only be a winger at the draft.

Lots to be decided about Eklund. He's also not scored a goal this season, and his shot definitely needs some work from us looking at it while he was here. So I wouldn't say it's definitive that he will be better than Edvinsson, nor that he's going to stick at center.

Eklund has an excellent shot, so I'm not worried about that part of his game. I always expected him to be a better playmaker and facilitator than shooter anyway. With the right linemates we'll see Eklund put up double digit goals in the SHL.

Eklund being a center prospect is pure nonsense. He's not.

Anyone have insight into the underwhelming offensive stats Eklund is posting this season?

I assume he isn't getting top minutes, but I'd still have figured he'd do better even with third line minutes as that implies he's playing inferior players, too.

It's easy to explain by the fact that his team is mostly just bad in SHL. They have not too much support to offer for him. I would not read too much from his point production during this season.

Their junior teams are good but SHL team? Not so much.

He's battled injuries and plays on a bad team. Would've been nice to keep him in San Jose (preferably the AHL level), but he will have a very good chance of playing on a line with Hertl and Meier next season which is a great opportunity to showcase what hes made of.

He's choking. Right now he's playing the most intense games of his career, fighting to avoid relegation. It's worse than anything you can experience in NA. Your team basically gets sucked into a black hole.

It's hard to get back to the SHL once you've been relegated, Modo has been stuck for a while. AIK is hardly a professional club anymore.
Djurgården has been relegated before but it was easier to get back up then. It can easily be the end of a dynasty and hockey will become even more obscure in Stockholm.

That said, Filip Forsberg carried his team in relegation games at a similar age. He had to be the leader as a teenager.

Performing in these games is the definition of clutch, choking is just human.

Dahlen carried his team back to the SHL twice, but its not fair to expect that from a 19 year old

As I wrote, performing is evidence of being clutch. Failing isn't really proof of anything. William's father is probably crushed by the situation as well. Relegation is a living nightmare.

He isn't choking. Just because you're not clutching up for the team doesn't mean you're choking. Eklund is one of the very few on his team that has good advanced stats in these play-outs and has not been on the ice for a goal against(Djurgården has let in 4 each game).

For Eklund to clutch up for you he would have had to put up 2ppg at the least. But he's stuck with linesmates like Emil Beeglund, & Niclas Bergfors. Sebastian Strandberg + Tim Söderlund aren't much better. The worst thing that happened to him and Djurgården was Lekkerimäki getting injured.

I'll also say HV71 is looking to very comfortably bounce back into the SHL after getting relegated last season. I'd be shocked if they don't get promoted.

I've watched almost all of his games since January. There was a clear difference to me at least from Eklund before and Eklund after he got hit in the head twice. He's kind of just a zero presence right now, and the pressure of relegation probably doesn't help that. It's growing pains, and it's easy to forget how young he is to be in the position he is right now.

Djurgarden is really bad this year.

We'll see, HV71 has a team that would be really expensive by SHL standards. They actually brought in more money from sponsors this year. Still nit sure they make it, they have a disaster in net.

Djurgården doesn't have that kind of backing financially. They are strong but they can't just buy themselves back to the top.

They'll have Lindbom back next season who could very well be ready to take on a starting role in Allsvenskan.
