I think he's relatively close as well, but not this year. He had a very up-and-down season with injuries and covid. I think he could really benefit from the full SHL season, World Juniors, getting reps with Men's national team, maybe even an outside shot at olympic team (which I think is minimal chance if he goes to NA).

yeah i do tend to agree with this path Pavels, so I don't disagree!

First real interview from rookie camp. Very well spoken kid for English not being his first language.

He said he’s coming back to SJ for training camp and wants to make the NHL team.

If Kane doesn't play. Put Eklund there for the first few games of the season and see what happens playing with Hertl. If it doesn't work out, send him back to Sweden, but dear god Bob do not play this guy on our 4th line all year.

They won’t hopefully. They should utilize the 9 game sliding ELC if possible

Then he should probably stay. He would only play about half of the regular season in Sweden then
That’s fine with me personally. I’m not sold on our AHL team being at all good at development so if he’s not lighting the NHL up after 9 games then let him tear Sweden up for the late and post season.

Thing is there are quite a few examples when it hasn't worked out great missing pre season and the first 20 games or so. Zibanejad comes to mind as an example (same team)

Fair enough I guess the sharks have to wait and see how he does before making any decisions. I think his SHL team would be happy to have him no matter when he comes though

They sure would, but there is a risk. He'll be fighting good players for those top 6 winger minutes. If they decide to keep him and see there is a possibility that Djurgården sign someone just in case he doesn't come back too.

Don't know if his mind is in San Jose or jetlag is wearing on him or what, but he's been pretty underwhelming the few games I've seen him. Today against Färjestad he was basically invisible.

Having a young prospect go back and forth between two different teams, leagues and continents during pre-season and uncertain where to play even after the season has started is not optimal, it's bs

No talk about Eklund?

3 assists in 2 games if my math is right. The short tape I saw he was just as crafty as expected. The only thing I don't like about him is that San Jose got to draft him

Sincerely, a Ducks fan.
Was playing on a line with Hertl lastnight. The game was audio only so I doubt there's many reviews on how he actually looked. With Kane's playing in question, maybe he gets a few games in the regular season.

He's a good player but let's wait and see what he can do against actual NHL talent. LA's roster last night was OHL/AHL level talent.

He wasn't scoring 9 goals in the prospect game so everyone forgot about him. He's looked better every time he's stepped onto NA ice. With his hockey IQ, I really think he could work into an NHL role this year. I would prefer if he got 9 games and then to the AHL rather than go back to Swedish ice though.

I keep pumping his tires but I was going back and forth on if i had him 1 or 2, lets see what happens but little doubt in my mind he becomes a fantastic nhl player.

And I am a vc fan, not a sharks fan.

Dont want to get the kent johnson fans upset, but no way he should have went before eklund (just my opinion). Lets see how this turns out.

It’s not just Eklund, IMO the 2021 draft was remarkably “flat” through the top 9. Like, I slightly prefer picks 1-3 to 7-9 … but only slightly, way less separation than most years IMO. Weak in the top ~3-6 picks, but good depth.

I like Power at 1, but I honestly think you can put picks 2-9 in any order and it’s a reasonable take:
  1. Power
  2. Beniers
  3. McTavish
  4. Hughes
  5. Johnson
  6. Edvinsson
  7. Eklund
  8. Clarke
  9. Guenther
I agree Eklund has a shot to be one of the top players in this draft, but the same goes for basically everyone in the top 9.

Looking like he’s going to make the team out of camp. The coach brought him up unprompted yesterday saying how much he is impressed.

4 points in 3 games so far, and then a goal in the shootout.

Oof that’s a terrible idea. The list of prospects rushed too early is a mile long, even those that looked ready. Another 1-2 years developing vs NHL right away doesn’t have a ton of upside, but certainly has a ton of downside.
