Tallied his first goal in Liiga today, and added an assist to that as well. He has now 1+3 in 10 games, and has slowly but steadily climbed up the ladder in Ilves. He plays now second line minutes and is a regular on the power play.

His offensive abilities have been known for a long time, but what has surprised me is his defensive side. He really plays a complete game and doesn't look at all out of place defending against grown-up men.

Hintz is not small (6'2" / 183 lbs). Neither is he afraid of putting his body to the play and has already thrown some nice hits this season. He will probably play for Finland in the upcoming WJC in Canada and, if he continues to play and develop like this, get drafted at latest in the 2nd round.

Maybe we need that finnish prospect update -thread

It already sort of exists in the Finland-subforum. I guess it could be moved here to be consistent though.

More on topic, I think he has a good chance of making the WJC squad. He's playing good two-way hockey and also seems to be connecting with Mustonen quite well.

I too have liked Hintz when I have had possibility to see him play.

I was watching Ilves-Ässät Liiga game in Tampere two weeks ago and it felt like Hintz was one of the best Ilves-forwards already.

Size is there, hockey sense is there, skating is improving and he seems to be comfortable to play against men.

I feel that this guy is potential second-third rounder.

2 assists so far after 12 minutes vs HIFK. Looks great out there.

3rd assist now.

I think he will go 2nd or 3rd round. He is good but never will be hyped in Finland because he don't play for HIFK/Kärpät/Tappara.

Apparently at least the Oilers is interested in Hintz. I have seen their Finnish scout talking to him twice this season after Ilves home game, and today there were three other men in Oilers jackets with Virmanen watching him.

His shot is his biggest knock?

Good thing that`s something that can easily be worked on. Shoot a couple of hundred pucks every day next offseason.

His shot is weak and he misses a lot of scoring opportunities. Defensive game is also a bit raw, but it's getting there.

It'll be interesting to keep track of him versus Rantanen leading up to the draft

Wow this guy is beast. Big, fast and skilled. Too bad that shot is poor.

He is still growing and getting stronger. He reads the game very well and finds the open slots for passes. Shot is weak, but can be improved. However, the natural instincts to score are already there. He had an injury last season that left him outside the U18 WJC team and it seems that this has grown a lot of "cojones" and given a lot of motivation for the preseason training.

I find for the most part.. players with weak shots just never seem to improve it. If you select a kid who doesn't have a good shot, I think you're gonna have to be prepared to not expect a lot of goals from them and know you'll have to surround them with finishers.

He is getting better and better. Can be the highest finnish pick in the draft if he plays in WJC and succeeds.

He seems to be improving all the time. Looking very good today. And according to latest sources he is 6'4 now, not 6'3. I wonder if he'll stretch to 6'5, haha.

If he contiues at current pace, he'll rack up ~30 points this season which is very good for his age.
