For a 2nd overall pick not a ton of talk , named to the US Olympic team though along with 15 other NCAA players

He just doesn’t really have a flashy game or incredible numbers. He’ll be talked about more whenever he’s in the NHL this/next year. I think he’ll also get a big role on the Olympic team playing in all situations. Hopefully, it’ll be a great preview of what he’s capable of.

It doesn’t help either that he was picked by Seattle.

One of the few things Francis got right last summer was drafting Beniers.
While you can't evaluate a draft after 1/2 season, four of the seven picks are having excellent D+1 seasons:
Beniers, Evans, Winterton, and Vyazovy.
Seattle isn't having Vegas' early success, but they might be setting up some long-term success.

What a shot on his goal this morning.

I love two way centers, loved the pick at the time, seems to be trending more than well (of course on a stacked team so there is always that concern).

I think it was a very smart decision by SEA management for the first pick of the first draft of the new franchise. Genuinely happy for them.

Still wish he somehow dropped to the Ducks, I love this player.

we shall see. I think Ryker Evans definitely is the best aside from Beniers anyways

As a Seattle fan it's good to have something to look forward too though I am tempering expectation on picks outside Beniers.

Evans: Undboubtedly has been solid but he was an overager when we drafted him. Should know more when he plays in the AHL next season.
Winterton: He has been solid and comments from the teams boards have lauded him too but 9 games is too small of a sample size to really count on. He was one of the youngest players in last years draft though so he can use all the development time he needs to get better. Probably won't make the AHL till the 2023-24 season.
Vyazovy: Great numbers but they are in the MHL so won't really know for a few years if he can cut it in the NHL.

He and Power have both really taken the next step this season, just another example of why it makes so much sense to let guys play two years unless they are sure-fire NHL'ers. He'd either be wasting an ELC year on a team going nowhere at the NHL level or have been loaned out to an AHL team and riding busses and stunting his offensive game. He is not blessed with superstar talent but with the talent he does have and his work ethic and proper development I think he can project as either a low-end 1C or a truly elite 2C. Ideally if you are Seattle you find a franchise player at the top of 2023 and then have Beniers slide in as a championship caliber 2C.

Yeah Bedard would be ideal, but i been thinking Wright-Beniers would be a good fit for 1-2. Likely no superstars but 2 strong two-way centers, kinda like Bergeron-Krejci was for the Bruins.

I don't think Wright drops to us this season unless we win the lottery. Same for Bedard next season.

I would take Beniers and Savoie/Cooley though.

Seems like such a forgotten about prospect, even in his draft year. With his skating his NHL floor is very very high. Personally like him better than Byfield and Stutzle.
His skill is really underrated. People talk about him being a safe, high floor player which is of course true but it’s always followed with “but he’s gonna have a ceiling (as a second line player)”.

Guys with his all-around game combined with instincts, work ethic and growth at every step tend to continue to bust through all the ceilings placed in their way. Reminds me of all the limits placed on Ryan O’Reilly when he came up as a teenage rookie and young NHL player. I think Beniers can buck the ceiling talk in much the same way.

He's going to be a first line center, not 2c like many suggest. He really does everything well and his skating is so good. He's exactly what teams in contention need out of a 1C without being McDavid, Matthews or MacKinnon types.
And I think he's going to outscore most offensive predictions. Might not be a true PPG player, but that's ok. Neither were guys like John Toews, who had one or two seasons over PPG, whom I actually see some of in Beniers. Similarly, I believe Bergeron only had 1 season at or above a PPG pace. So really, if he's a 70-75 point complete center, that's still theoretically one of the best players in the league. At least if your goal is to win a Cup and not just win accolades, Hart and Art Ross trophies and fantasy hype.
