C/LW Jonathan Drouin (2013, 3rd, TBL) III

Drouin with a goal and assist tonight.

71 points (21g 50a) in 32 games.... 2.22 points per game.

At that pace, had he played in the 53 games so far this season for Halifax, he'd be at 117 points. Ridiculous.

Another 4 points for Drouin tonight (1g, 3a) in a 7-1 Mooseheads win. He was absolutely amazing on Halifax's 5th goal, stripping the player of the puck at the Shawinigan blue line, and then using his magic to turn it into an Ehlers goal.

EDIT: And here's the video.

What are the odds he doesn't make it to the NHL next year ? just wondering cause i'd love to see him play for Team Canada at the world juniors.

With all of Tampa's firepower i'd give it a 50/50 chance of sticking in the NHL next season. I'm not super high on Drouin, and while that highlight assist is nice, that play would never happen in the NHL. Defenders are just plain not that dumb (most of the time lol) and he won't be able to skate that slowly and pull that off playing against men.

If he's not in the NHL next year something has gone terribly wrong. He has absolutely nothing to prove in juniors and if he goes back he will stall his development even further. I will be shocked if he's not in the NHL full-time next season.

Looking at some of these highlights and watching the WJC, he definitely has gamebreaking skill and probably has the best hands of any prospect since Patrick Kane in 2007. But he plays a very "junior" style of game - I doubt these little fancy moves are going to work against guys like Shea Weber. As a fan, I was looking forward to, not watching him score a ******** of points again this season, but adapting his game more to the pro level like Tavares did when he was 16-17 to when he was 18-19. He could either end up as an elite 1st line player like Kane or just a better skating Rob Schremp IMO.

I'd take a look at an extended highlight compilation on youtube if you haven't. The one above is definitely a junior move, but most of his skill set looks translatable.

I don't think this is a real worry with Drouin. His stick handling will be among the best in the NHL from day one, and he's got great hockey sense to go with it.

He struggled at the WJCs, but he's not the first, and he won't be the last.

lol well that is the thing about really good players they are able to make plays work that most players can not do, it is not that they can not be done in the NHL but rather only certain players know how to pull them off....not sure how you can not be high on this player, he has the vision, smarts, playmaking and passing, shooting, plays bigger than he is, game breaker, what is there not to like?

Unlike Schremp, Drouin has elite hockey IQ

Also Drouin's been working pretty hard on his two-way game. Tampa is grilling two-way players into all of their forwards, even the offensive ones, in the whole system, which is something Drouin wasn't bringing early on. I'm sure he still floats at the blue line a bit, but I have to think one of the reasons for moving him to C was to get him more involved defensively.

I'd say 90/10 he sticks in Tampa next year, even if he has to take some time in the press box.

I think Drouin would have to try really hard to be like Shremp. I don't think it is in Drouin to be 'lazy', and he has to knock his head against the wall every day for a year to reduce his IQ.

I think Drouin will eventually become a top-line player in the NHL. He has the talent, IQ and drive to get there. Though he isn't big, he isn't so small that he is a boom or bust type either. I can't see him being anywhere but the NHL next season. He MAY need a season or two to acclimatize himself to the NHL level, but it won't be long until he becomes an important piece to Tampa's success night in and night out.

I'd go a step further and say if he stays in junior next year he will outright regress, not stall. He's accomplished everything important at the junior level and dominated to a degree that renders any further minutes at that level absolutely pointless.

Normally I'm a huge proponent at patience with prospects but with Drouin he'd learn much more in the NHL next year even if he gets scratched often. He's a special case, he simply cannot learn anything else in the CHL.

I cant peg it to be entirely honest, it's totally just a gut feeling from watching him. Hes one of the best junior players in years for sure, but i just cant help but feel that hes going to have trouble with transitioning to the pros. I certainly hope for Tampas sake he does pan out to be the gamebreaker they think can replace St Louis, but for his flashiness and hands and dangles he just doesnt play a pro game.

I dont think he busts, but im not holding my breath for much more than a 50-60 point forward with little commitment to defensive effort.

He's a ridiculous talent with a great work ethic. That's really all you need to know to realize he's going to be just fine.

One thing people always seem to forget when they say 'That would never work in the NHL' is that he's not playing in the NHL. These moves work in junior, and Drouin is one of the few players with the skill to pull them off, so why wouldn't he be doing it?

If he can create a scoring chance by pulling off some slick moves, what should he do? Dump and chase because that's more of a 'pro move'?

Yeah, it's kind of a silly argument. Great players adapt. There will be some growing pains while he figures out what works at the nhl level, but he'll figure it out. It isn't like his game is predicated on some weird skill that won't transfer to the nhl.

Agree, I think when people say his moves won't work in the NHL they likely haven't seen him play much because this is a small part of his game.

Most of his puckhandling is about protecting the puck and drawing defenders away to dish out passes.

It's like saying a guy like Giroux shouldn't be effective in the NHL because he can't use his great hands as much as he would be able to in Junior.

Jonathan Drouin, can you say "hot streak!"

Has anyone noticed Drouin's incredible 4 game point explosion? He has 17 points in his last 4, including 9 in his last 2 games.

I think Drouin is fully recovered from early season concussion issues!

I can't wait to see this kid work his magic with Stamkos next year, especially if St.Louis is moved out, you know Drouin will get the opportunity.
