I imagine if he shows well at the U18s he'll gain even more hype. Canada will have a weak team with CHL still going on mostly, Russia banned, should be a shoe in tournament for Cooley and USA to shine and get the spotlight heading into the draft.

I'm still more excited about his plausible ceiling and just all around potential than any other player in the draft, including Wright. Wright might be safer, more well rounded choice, still the clear number 1, but Cooley could be just super special. Kind of see Wright like maybe a more gifted John Toews. Someone who's going to to do everything out there and who an lead his team to a cup probably, with a game ideal for playoffs and finals.

Cooley, well, I don't want to jump the gun. But he has the "potential" in my view to be 100 point kind of player, dominant offensively, in possession, on the PP, and surely with his speed and skating, someone who can be wherever he needs to be on D and short handed. I don't know if a better, more skilled version of Matt Barzal is a good compare, but that's kind of what I'm thinking. Matt Barzal without the deficiencies. And able to control a game better.

He's still got time and room to grow, and he will certainly put on more muscle eventually and hopefully an inch or so in height. Give him a year or two in the college game to work out his skills and talent, I think he really will be special. Might just end up doing the one year in college and then signing after the upcoming college season, Like Johnson and Bernier did this year I guess. But either way.

Think Habs, Flyers, Coyotes, Hawk would all be legit options depending how things fall. At least, I think all those 4 will be wanting to come out of this draft with centers and this class certainly has them.

Thought he was okay today. Scored the important goal for momentum.

I like Cooley. I just can't get to Cooley as a top 5 pick. Too high for me with him being undersized and I think some overrate his skating. The rest of the game is good, but I don't see it as NHL elite in any area. I would not be expecting to draft Cooley and think I'm getting a 1C. Likely 2C, if he sticks at center. I'd have him more in the 6-10 range.

I thought he had some moments where he really popped but didn't really notice him on a lot of shifts. He seems to really be wanting to change his game stylistically, almost zegrasesqe with all the fancy stick handling and flashy plays. I swear it seemed like he could of scored a goal but wanted to beat someone again with another move and ended up not scoring. Maybe he's just trying to impress to much for the draft...

Very lofty expectations. 'More gifted Jonathan Toews. Matt Barzal without the deficinecies'. I'd temper them a little.

Agreed that he hasnt looked like a top 5 pick in these two U18 games. And his top end speed doesnt look great. Nazar looks much more effective at running his line than Cooley
Not sure where you do not think he has looked good....his speed is great, he is doing very good stickhandling in tough areas, making great cuts to the net...i personally think the kid is looking great.

He's looking fantastic. Snuggerud has been ruining entire shifts for that line with some limited IQ so it's no surprise some people would feel that way where Nazar is playing with Howard and both of them are making things happen by actually reading the ice (unlike Snuggerud who can't read anything and just continually skates into Cooley).

Cooley’s play in this tournament hasn’t been bad, but what are the expectations? Must he dominate? He’s had a few games this season of that, but so has half the group.

For a consensus top five pick, I think that’s the expectation or not too far off of it. Personally, I have not seen that level with any consistency from Cooley. People aren’t going to want to hear this and I completely don’t mean this offensively because I’ve said all along that this guy was a top 10 prospect in his draft, but I would say his time at the NTDP has been slightly better than Thomas Bordeleau and he’s a slightly better prospect.

If you think Snuggerud has low IQ you clearly don't watch much of the USNTDP.

I watch him continuously flip pucks out to no one, miss wide open passing lanes, put his linemates in bad spots.. skate into other linemates because he's singular focused on the puck and unable to read the motion of his teammates despite them being in better positions to collect the puck than he is.

Snuggerud is one of the smartest players on the USNTDP. Hockey IQ is easily his best asset.

I thought he was terrific in game 1 against Canada but haven't seen the U.S-Czech game yet.

I would suggest watching him play over a bigger sample size. Really smart player with great anticipation.

Snuggerud is misused. He’s a great defensive center with underrated offensive ability being used as a sniping winger. He can shoot the puck and there are too many centers on that team, but I don’t like how the top two centers are the two small centers without elite skating and they’ve put guys like Snuggerud and McGroarty full time at wing.

there is no way he is Galchenyuk...I was not a big fan of Galchenyuk in his draft...his skating is sluggish, Cooley has excellent skating....Galchenyuk has mediocre IQ...Cooley has good IQ.....Cooley is going to be a great player in the NHL, his skating, slick puck handling and IQ make him excellent for the draft

Everyone’s just afraid of past busts, Cooley will be a fine player

I love Cooley's game. I don't see all the kids play in order to slot them but his skating is on point. He's got a great handle and sets up his linemates well.

I am not afraid of past busts.. Galchenyuk wasn't a bust. For brief period he contested with the BEST in the NHL.

I am worried Cooley may not have an ironman streak in him and that's who the Canadiens need. Like Suzuki.

Exactly! Galchenyuk was a 30 goals scorer at his best. Could have had a great career if he didn't fall off so brutally.

Cooley is obviously more of a playmaker than Galchenyuk and a better skater. No injury to mess up his development either.
