I think you're overthinking it. If I was going by your system, I would think Rutger McGrortey is the best player in this draft. The thing is, hockey IQ is the most important part ofnthe game, and he's elite in that category. He's gonna be a stud

Can you explain that a little more because I don’t understand what you mean? McGroarty is bigger than Cooley, but also not too good of a skater. I like McGroarty’s hockey sense more than Cooley’s.

Reminds me of a mix of Dach and Couturier. Like him a lot.

I like him a lot as well but Dach and Couturier? Cooley is a shrimp compared to those monster centers. I see a player with the mold and engine of Brayden Point.

#3 on my board currently behind Wright and Savoie. #1 is not out of the question.

I think he's going to have really good tournament and put himself in position to go first Overall. See a lot of similarities to him and Nico Hischier. Shane Wright has pulled a disappearing act so far, maybe putting Beddard on his line will get him going and help him save his 1OA status.

I didn't mean size wise I meant the game he plays.

I would consider size to be a tremendous part of the game Dach and Couturier play. Couturier specifically is a puck possession monster who uses his body to do so better than almost any center in the league. Cooley is a quick decision machine because he doesn’t have that luxury.

Anybody have any new articles or reports on this kid. Very enticing prospect for the Habs. Haven't seen enough of him and now with WJC cancelled, it's shame not to see more of him.

NHL Comparable: RNH or Brayden Point?

True natural centerman or will he be more fitted on the wing. Thank you!

How does he compare to Jack Hughes in terms of potential and style?

Maybe Barzal?

Barzal is a much better skater and while Barzal has become stronger defensively over the years under Trotz I think Cooley is way ahead of where Barzal was at his age when it comes to a defensive game.

I think of left handed Giroux when I see Cooley. Tenacious 2way center with really good skills. Don’t know if he will become as good as Giroux or develop a different style but that’s who he reminds me of.

These comparisons are not good. He’s way more of two-way guy with a good motor. And his skating is not at the level of players like Barzal and Hughes. He’s more similar to Point or Giroux.
I find Barzal and Hughes to have some of the best first step and lateral movement in the league. Point and Giroux are decent skater too but more linear. Is it what you meant?

Point and Giroux are quite feisty player, I assume you see the same in Cooley (good motor). I think that's a very good attribute that can't really be learned as it's more of a personality/character trait.

I know its 4 on 4 and his stickhandling looks great but hes not really accomplishing anything here except having his teammates watch him. The best part of the play is his pass at the end that leads to the shot on goal but he looked off at least 3 good plays along the way.

Alot of these new stickhandling phenoms end up stickhandling their way into a corner. Great skill though

Yeah, my point is that he's not some pure offensive forward that is a lock to be 1PPG eventually with absolutely electric offensive skills and skating. His offensive skills and skating are good, but his motor, defense, and competitiveness are big parts to his game.

I've started to come around more and more to the idea of Cooley as a top 10 pick, but I still have some questions.

Thought he was great in some games I watched earlier in the season, and then pretty bad in some recent games I went through. I also thought he did well with the 20's, so its a tough balance.

He can have stretches where he looks like a real crafty offensive player that is creating scoring chances every shift with hockey sense, playmaking, and stick skills. I can also see how he ends up being an all-situations player. I don't think he's the best defensive player I've seen or has the best motor, but I see good potential.

I'm just not convinced about the idea that he's a sure thing. His tools are good, but I feel they are behind guys like Wright, Savoie, Lambert. He has performed well, but I think his performances are behind guys like Hughes and Turcotte going back a few years, and probably more in line with Bordeleau.

People talk about him being a top 2-3 pick. Sorry, but if he's a top 2-3 pick, you have to be convinced about what he brings. I am not convinced. Cooley will play in the NHL without a doubt. I am not sure at this point that he's a definite top 6 guy.
