C Kirby Dach (2019, 3rd, CHI)

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
Kid looks really good. Top 5-ish talent?

Somewhere around there for sure. Hughes, Kakko and Podkolzin all seem higher ranked but hes in that next grouping. I really wouldnt expect him to fall very far past the wings at 6, maybe 8, but he could also go 3rd or 4th I think too

I don’t think he’s extremely dissimilar from Draisaitl. But again, I think Draisaitl was a thicker, stronger player who liked playing in traffic more (and was better at it) than Dach at the same age. And while Draisaitl was a pass-first guy he did score 50% more goals in his draft year and to me was a more willing shooter with a better shot.

Dach reminds me a ton of Jason Spezza. Similar body type, similar tools, similar play style with the same sort of hands and vision, similar skating stride, same frustrating lack of intensity.

It's pretty easy to understand why some don't rate him highly. First of all, I don't really think he is a C, and secondly and more importantly, he has serious issues in regards to his drive and willingness to compete. An extremely frustrating player with a lot of talent. Could end up anywhere from a winger version of Johansen to a Wojtek Wolski.

I've seen him 3 times and the one thing I'm not sold on is his compete/consistency. He just doesnt play fast or with urgency. That doesnt mean hes bad but I think thats something teams want that hes lacking. I could see him being a star or a center version of Anthony Mantha based on his compete level. Still a really good player but kinda makes you wonder if he brought it every night what he could do. I would take Cozens and Turcotte before him I think (havent seen Turcotte play really though)

Because he does not have the drive or the skating to play C. Blades are my favorite team, I watch them a fair bit, but Dach is absurdly overrated by some here.

Having watched him quite a bit I certainly don't agree on either of those statements, especially not the drive part.

I watched a lot of Dach and this isn't exactly the rule for him. He may have looked really good there, but there's some concern because he doesn't move his feet a whole lot

I love how now that Dach has had 3 straight nationally televised games you dont hear any of this shit anymore. Do you people just make shit up about prospects because u clearly hadn't seen the kid play when you posted about his skating and compete level. His compete is absolutly off the charts Haha.

Looks a lil different in the playoffs than the regular season.

Yes, being a Blades dan and having watched close to 80% of his games I made it all up. Kid plays like RyJo, dominates when he feels like it.

Well he feels like dominating alot then
Sure, if we pretend the regular season doesn’t count. He is beyond frustrating to watch. I’m happy he is on the Blades, but he will have serious issues translating if he plays like he did in the regular season.

In fairness to those posters his board play, forechecking, and physical assertivness have really stepped up in the playoffs.

It’s a great sign, seems like a guy that rises to the occasion in big moments.

I think most judging on here is from highlight videos

not really it's more healthy vs unhealthy. Anyway you look at it anyone who questioned his skating or compete either didn't watch him or doesn't have a clue how to identify things

This and him having grown so much in recent years is why I would gladly take him at #4 (especially if Turcotte is off the board and that I don't really believe the Avs will go D anyways). There is a lot of potential there.
He started off hot like crazy and then things got a little weird. He also missed some games in the middle of the season where he went through this ridiculous slump. But even then he wasn't playing as bad as his numbers were IMO. Now to finish the season and in the playoffs he clearly has found his game again which seems to indicate he is healthy again.

I also don't understand one bit people believing him to turn into a winger down the line. IMO he is a bonafide center. More likely Cozens ends up as a winger than him IMO.

A lot of the concerns in regards to Kirby are massively overblown. He has it all IMO. But he will need some time to figure things out. Worst thing you can do to him is putting him in the NHL next season.
But if he is given time and can stay healthy (both big ifs), I expect him to develop into a scary good player and I would love it to be for the Avs.

But I don't think he fits the Avs drafting philosophy all that well. And we are notoriously bad at being patient or helping our prospects along in their development so maybe its best if he goes somewhere else.

I think we learned our lesson with Jost. Joe will be patient with his pick. I hope its Dach.
