Be careful comparing.
Couturier scored Way more goals and had about 100 points per year in the Q.
Veleno has
6g 25A in 31 games with Saint John
Has
3G 16A in 13 games with Drummondville
Of the 41 assists - 22 are on the pp
(12 of 25 with Saint John)
(10 of 16 with Drummondville)
2 of 9 goals on pp as well.
In 44 games he has 7 goals and 19 assists even strength.
Don’t get me wrong I am a huge fan of Veleno and his smarts, but to say he’s turned it around is premature.
I truly hope he does.

He's a pass first guy. I can see pretty much a better, bigger, David Desharnais, not to be too corny. Has a nice shot when actually used, but not a world-beater, always looks for the pass, fast, just a generally good player. I dropped him starting off but he's surging back and I really want to see what he can do in the NHL with an elite shot, even if its someone like Frk.

Desharnais with more size and a shot would actually be good... Had two seasons of 50+ pts playing C for Mtl. I wanted him gone mainly because he was too small to win his battles and too poor a sniper to be a real offensive threat.

I actually really like this comparison. Great vision and skill, he is definitely better defensively than DD and probably a better skater, but overall they are very similar in that they are always looking pass, when they shoot it is almost surprising. Like another poster said, as much as DD got S**t on he was a good player, for a few seasons, he really just lacked the size to be more than a pp specialist.

Pretty much everyone who said he was buried on a stacked SNB and exposed on an empty SNB was correct. He's not a game breaker, but a solid two-way centre with good vision and speed. Michael McLeod is a good prospect comparison.

3 more points tonight, 24 in his last 11 games after putting up 1 point in his first 4 after the trade. 25 in 15 total, compared to 31 in 31 with the Dogs.

Volts are well positioned to make a run at the league, too.

Just when I thought he might fall enough to the Jets he goes to a good team and starts tearing it up. With the lack of centers in this draft it's likely that if he keeps this up he probably goes in the top 15 rather easily.

I have to think the odds are good he finishes as the top ranked center, and some team is going to want a center in the top 10.

Yeah I mean if he keeps putting up points at this pace he is likely to rise back up into the top 10. A solid PO could lock it in for him.

Yeah, and I’m thinking scouts are probably pretty comfortable with him because he’s been on their radar for so long. Although some times that works against guys.

True. It's interesting to see that he is playing so much better in a better system. His stock will definitely rise I think. Over the last 11 games he is over 2PPG. If he can manage that kind of production in the PO he is probably a lock for a top 10 maybe even very high pick.

Has bust written all over him. I see nothing in him. If he'S top 10 this draft is weakkkkkk

Yeah. No.
IMO this is the best defensemen class we have seen in the last 5 years easily. Probably even in the last 10 years.
You also have a crapton of high-end wingers available.

Its a rather weak draft for centers and goaltenders but overall its still very strong-

Also Veleno is certainly not a bust. I really want the Avs to take advantage of the fact that there are around 8 guys available that have legit top pairing potential which is insane (and almost unprecedented) and get one of these but Veleno certainly would be an amazing consolation prize. MacKinnon - Veleno down the middle would be amazing going forward.

Glad to see that he is finally picking up steam on a good team. Don't think he will make it back in to the top5 but he should be the first center off the board which means he is going top10. I wonder if Montreal is a fit given their struggles at center depending on where they pick. He is a hometown kid afterall..

I don't think Montreal is the best fit for Veleno. He'll more than likely be thrown into the number one center role too early and ruin his development. IMO he will be a great 2nd line center with a very high hockey IQ but he is just missing that elite offensive ability.

I see him being a Ryan O'Rielly type player. Not so much in style but in terms of production and defensive ability.

He is a two-way playmaker who will shine defensively I think. But offensively he will only be as good as his wingers. He's all the sudden pilling on the assists now that he has some better wingers to work with in Drummondville. He was also pretty solid at the Hlinka with better wingers as well. The Habs might not be the best place for him to go now but if they can decide on a rebuild and commit to it patiently then it may end up being a good place for him to develop.
