The 5 best players in NHL aren't necessarily the 5 players with the highest hockey IQ... Many other attributes go into it.
Thats fine but they have a higher chance of having that higher IQ.

As for the earlier disussion, Aho is not a higher IQ player than Kane and Eichel Nor Hughes*

I am confused, what is a “Safe Space”?

To my understanding many of Hughes drawbacks can be attributed to his size/strength and maturity. He has amazing raw talent and the reason he is considered #1 is his upside combined with his skillset. Hughes’ abilities which some considered average are very correctable and the things he is elite at are hard to teach. Furthermore, the argument over hockey IQ is pointless. That is one of the more vague and subjective traits to track/measure. Posters will use that for a point of attack because there is no credible way to back up their clams. For example: Hughes is obviously fast, it would be silly for naysayers to use that to nitpick a 17 year old prospect.

Some people just make a living saying contrarian things just for the sake of it. It’s like people who bet against the roller in craps. Yeah you will win sometimes, but it doesn’t stop you from being a jerk.

It’s the same trite from the same folks every year. It isn’t new to Hughes. Once they are inevitably proven wrong they will never answer for it, but simply move on to the next draft to shit on the top kids.

I think Aho has a higher hockey IQ. Hughes is good in this category, but his hockey IQ is not as high level as his skill. And because I'm sure someone will take exception because someone always does in reference to Hughes, that doesn't mean he won't be very good. There are a lot of very good NHL'ers, like Eichel, Kane, Hall, Malkin, MacKinnon, Stamkos, Ovechkin whose hockey skill is higher than their hockey IQ. There are only so many Aho's, McDavid's, Barkov's, Kucherov's, Matthews whose hockey IQ is as good as their skill.
I do agree with you on that actually. I’m a big fan of Aho and I think Aho’s IQ is among the elite of the elite and perhaps that’s a bit of an inaccurate comparison. I believe Hughes’ Hockey IQ is great but you are absolutely right when you say his skill is higher than his IQ. Very well said. That being said, Hughes clearly has more raw skill than Aho.

Lol too bad Hughes will go from playing with a stacked team to playing with Taylor Hall. However will he fare, oh woe is Jack.

Did Devils fans ever answer for calling everyone haters who said that Hischier wasn't the best player in the 2017 draft?

will you if it turns out to again be true? ofc not. the reasoning for arguments changes depending on the context. when Hughes dongs on the NHL it will be 'well he'll wear down eventually' or something. "high pts = defensive bad" type stuff. same stuff comes out about virtually every prospect. welcome to the party

We need to get a moderator in here asap. It has become comical how pathetic these ranger fans and Finland fan boys have become in a JACK HUGHES THREAD. It's like they have nothing better to do with their lives than pop in here everyday to just talk and try to rattle devils fans because they are jealous they aren't picking number #1. Your opinions on Hughes do not mean anything so why bother coming in here ? You guys are jealous we get it.

What does this have to do with Jack Hughes?

Can you please stop? You’re honesty derailing this thread again. You’re constantly spewing nonsense like this. You’re previous posts were wiped out by the mods. You’re just trying to rile people up.

This thread once again, like the last, is nothing but putting down a 17 year old kid. Think about how sad that is.

For the record, i am a Ranger fan who has been a Hughes supporter since day 1 of this thread. Im actually glad the Devils fans showed up here. I couldnt keep up with all the nonsense that I was getting quoted in from the Fins.

What else could this kid have proven in the U18? Outside of his teammates, he had nearly double the amount of point as anyone on any other team. He was the class of the tournament, after a very good season, and all I see is a bunch of people in here bagging on him. Kid is a legit player and will put up numbers in the NHL.

Maybe that's the point? To justify the hype he should prove himself against tougher opposition, against kids it has only limited value. The only chance he has left before the draft are the men's World Championships.

Most #1 overall picks never play against men before being drafted. The goal posts just keep getting shifted to meet whatever narrative is popular today.

Can agree. Lurked this thread months ago, and you were in here defending against the nonsense.

Why are people living and dying on this hill. Most NHL elite players never played against men at 17. It isn't a big deal. McDavid, Matthews, Eichel, Marner, Barzal, Crosby, MacKinnon, Seth Jones, etc never did at 17 (yes, Matthews and Eichel played in the World's at 18). It seems to be something to beat Hughes down with which has nothing to do with on-ice performance or something that is in his current control.

So should scouts should just not consider prospects that play Canadian juniors? Only performances in Men’s Euro leagues?

This is a ridiculous stance to take and I am not sure where it came from. The majority of top prospects did not play against men in their draft years.

What hype? His own thread suggests he’s got a bad shot, average hockey IQ, and poor skating mechanics. He’s propped up by playing with better players than his peers, can’t play well when it matters, and is beating up on inferior competition. Maybe he is a decent passer but other than that is there anything about his game that looks good to observers?

Why should he? He is going as #1 anyway.

Canadian juniors are at least a tier above the USHL and it's been rare for Canadian top prospects to return to U18 for a second time, so I wouldn't equate the two at all.

I think that is a crazy expectation to have, and not one that most #1 picks from outside of Europe are ever held to. Why now for Jack Hughes? He shredded the U18s against his age group after a very solid season.

With that said, I really doubt that Hughes cares to "justify the hype" top a bunch of online posters. He has more than justified going #1. Pretty sure the Devils have seen more than enough.

Because he plays in the USHL and wasn't exactly destroying the U20 tournament. No first overall ever has made a direct jump from the USHL to the NHL.
