C Jack Eichel (2015, 2nd, BUF) IV

Eichel is going to have the most dominant performance of any player for the season and have 0 points to show for it.
 
He should easily have 5-10 assists this season. It must be frustrating for him. How about that defensive takeaway though? That was impressive.
 
maybe Buffalo fans are right that he needs to play with O'Reilly

edit: but then again Kane looked really good this game before he went down.
 
He had a bad game tonight. He looked very much like he did in the last game of the WJC where he appeared to lose all faith in his teammates (and rightfully so).

Buffalo has so many players who just kill all offense when the puck is on their stick. Ennis, Moulson, Gionta, McGinn. Girgensons looks like a bad AHL player this season. Reinhart, O'Reilly and Eichel stand out so much on this team in smarts, no one is even close to them. It's bad when Evander Kane is one of your smarter forwards.

Even so, tonight he feathered a perfect pass to Ennis cross ice who had the whole net to shoot at. Ennis instead of shooting skates toward the goalie cutting off his own shooting angle! Bizarre and stupid.

I would play Eichel with Moulson and Girgensons next game. Moulson will at least finish in the slot and Girgensons can do the dirty work.
 
Funny I thought he was having one of his worst games so far. That's hockey though.

Ya and they clicked in the pre season too. Keep Kane with O'Reilly and Ennis.
 
The whole Sabres lineup outside of Eichel and O'Rielly is pure garbage. I don't expect to see Eichel progress as he should unless the Sabres get better as a team.

I think you are exaggerating just a tad...would hardly say ristolainen, reinhart, ennis, girgensons and kane are garbage. Eichel has not been that good, its fine to admit that. I would not say that domi has the best linemates, or duclair for that matter. Same can be said for oscar lindberg in new york, janmark in dallas or mccann in vancouver, yet they are outproducing him too. Mcdavid made yakupov and pouliot look like 1st liners. Its fine, maybe eichel will alter his game a bit to produce at the nhl level, maybe he won't, but to make excuses for his disappointing level of play is also garbage.

Except that he should be The Guy who carries the Sabres. It's possible it won't happen in the first year, it rarely does that with the prospects but he will be their Go-To-Guy. Eventually

That garbage lineup just put up 53 shots on Pittsburgh. I think the puck was in Pittsburgh zone the whole 3rd period.

Well. That's completely untrue. Ristolainen, Pysyk, Kane, Reinhart, etc. aren't garbage. There's a good amount of talent on the team. Part of the problem is that it's a lot of new players, a lot of young players, and a new coach/system, which is a lot of change in one off season. The bigger problem is that the whole team has been just been snake-bitten. We're 6th in the league in CF% and 26th or 27th in PDO. Lousy goaltending and poor shooting percentages have been our undoing so far this season. That, and a junk PK.
 
There was an article around here around this time last season that said at the NHL level Eichel would want to switch to a shorter stick because at the NHL level there is less time and space to work with and players are so good at getting their stick in the way of shots and passes that it's more important to be able to stick handle with the puck in tight and make passes with your stick closer to your body. The more I watch Eichel the more I think he's going to have to go to a shorter stick eventually. While it's very impressive to watch him skate with the puck 6 feet in front of him and watch him strip players of the puck while he's standing on the moon the long stick doesn't exactly help when he has one forward and one defensemen glued to his back at all times like he does in the NHL.
 
No excuses for his lack of production, but he has been playing very well, and I could see him starting to produce with more consistency soon. He has to make some adjustments to his game to produce, but every game I've watched this year he been very noticeable, and played well.
 
He just needs to get some confidence back and put himself in better positions to score. Needs to go to the dirty areas and get a couple dirty goals. He has seemed somewhat reluctant to go to the net.

This is it. He seems to be gliding around the outside now for some reason and shooting from bad angles.

Bylsma needs to sit him down. Tell him to ignore the media McDavid/ Eichel crap. He doesnt need to be Mc David nor live up to anything. Get back to having fun and being his own guy.

Yep he's likely struggling because of this thread and not because everything that he touched that should have been put into the net by his teammates in the first 7 games of the season was squandered. It's almost like if he gets 3 assists in those games for the tap ins he gave Kane then he would have had a perfectly normal stat line of 3-3-6 going into tonight. But the McDavid hype must be getting to his head that's the more logical conclusion.
 
The kid is in some serious slump, in some fockin funk. Hope this dry season ends soon. Enough is enough.
