His strength, skating and release is going to make him a very good NHL player for a very long time. He's a beaut.

It wasn't a GOTY candidate, but the entirety of the play was extremely impressive, from the steal to the body work to the shot. He doesn't look like an 18 year old rookie, that's for sure. He also had a really strong overall game in both zones.

He out-hustled Boone Jenner who is known for his compete and grittiness for that one. The tank was worth it man, you can sense the excitement in the arena whenever Eichel touches the puck and when he scored, the crowd just ate it up.

This kid will be a superstar in Buffalo. :yo:

Great to see him having early success. Love the electricity in the crowd when he handles the puck. Haven't seen that in a long time.

Wait did somebody actually say goal of the year? LOL
Well, it probably is the Sabres' GOTY candidate thus far. I'm sure Eichel will dangle on another goal sometime this season before a snipe though and that'll be their better nominee. Nonetheless, it's still a good goal from the steal to the snipe and nothing he hasn't done before at BU.

Goal was great but the power and control to keep the puck in was more impressive.

Yeah, I was more impressed that Eichel was the first one back to steal the puck once it was turned over than by the actual goal itself. This was the kind of play without the puck that I wanted to see more of from him when watching BU games last year, I'm glad to see he is doing it in the NHL.

That play to steal the puck and bring it back in while protecting it like that was very Peter Forsberg-esque IMO. This kid is going to be a star.

I only saw the first two periods of the game last night but came away very impressed with Eichel. I know he's a huge talent in regards to his toolbox but I ended up being very impressed with his hockey sense, confidence and composure. He already looks like a vet out there and you can see his teammates already defer to him. I can't remember the last time I saw a rookie take such a leading role in the ice from day 1.

I missed his goal and saw highlights and I was shocked he was able to get back and win the puck cleanly. Very Forsbergesque. His shot was an absolute rocket. He's not far from being a #1 center if he's not already there.

One other thing - watching him wind up on the PP to enter the zone was crazy. It's nice to see him use his speed more.

Besides his amazing goal, there was another little play that might have went unnoticed that game but stood out to me. He about to cross the blue line when foligno tripped him causing him to superman in the air but he somehow was able to maintain possession of the puck with one hand on his stick while in the air. Maybe it was just me but that play impressed the heck out of me.

If we're being honest, Eichel easily could have finished the day with 2 goals, 2 assists and 4 points. And this is not a reach. He had a pair of "slam dunk" assists on should-have-been-easy-tap-in-goals by Foligno and Kane. And he just missed another goal of his own on the backhand while coming in 2-on-1 with Kane.

If you think these Eichel threads are crazy now, could you imagine if he netted 4 points today? HFBoards would have collapsed like CNN when it was hacked.

Not just you. When they were showing the reply, I was focusing on that staick work, and not the trip. Very impressive control.

No matter howmany times I see it, I swear Eichel looks so slow...then he just slips by 2-3 players and you're wondering wtf haha.

Such smooth skating...wish i had that for beer leaguing haha.
