C Ivan Ryabkin - Muskegon, USHL (2025 Draft)

This is a good deep dive on Ryabkin's game for those that are less familiar with his game.

A few minutes ago he scored his first goal of the season (in the power-play).Before that, in the last four games he had only one secondary assist and the lack of goals in all the games was alarming.

P.S.
Although now I have re-watched the episode - Ryabkin could not have been the goal scorer, since it was clearly visible that he gave the pass for the shot. Perhaps they will correct the protocol.

Because, for example (again, a second ago) another player from 2007, also called Ivan, Arkhipov (and we knew this name until now?) scored a goal for Dynamo and tied Ryabkin in statistics (both have 1+4 in the season (and that's if Ryabkin's controversial goal is not annulled)). It seems to me that in order for Ryabkin to keep his place in the top 5 of the draft, he needs to be more active on the ice.

Goal - 10:13 (not sure why Ryabkin is credited with the goal since it clearly him passing it to Khanin)

Just watched the Dynamo team game live. Ryabkin had two secondary assists. However, although they are secondary according to the protocol, they were decisive in these episodes. The first goal was scored after Ryabkin fought along the boards and check the puck. The second goal was scored after winning a faceoff and a clear pass back. I will note that it was in these aspects of the game that the player was good in today's match: checking, faceoffs, always verified and error-free passes. But he was not successful with shots. It is not surprising that he still has "0" in the goals scored column. Considering that Ryabkin has already played 10 games this season, this is probably not enough for a player who is expected to be seen in the top 5 in the upcoming draft. In the overall scorers table, he has pulled himself up a bit, but is still not the best among the 2025 eligible players. Even in his Dynamo team there are two players his age who are statistically better than Ryabkin: Limatov and Melikov (new name).

So, no points but at least 6 high-danger chances created/taken and one disallowed goal. Looked good except for a handful of poor blind passes to the center of the ice, but he's creative. Still like this guy's game a lot.

7 assists in 8 games, avg 16min TOI.

This is MHL, right? Not the start he'd probably like, but we'll see what happens.

Could be tough with so many other guys off to big starts and it feels like Michkov and Demidov went a few spots lower than they should.

Yes, you are correct. It is an MHL game.

Scratched two games in a row in the MHL. Only two even strength points this year, both secondary assists.

I’m surprised by his low numbers so far this year. I haven’t watched every game of his, but I wonder if it stems from over-passing the puck.

Ivan seems like a tremendous playmaker, but he has the skill and skating to really tear the MHL apart. Despite the lack of production, I truly believe he should be playing in the KHL.

Maybe he wanted to play in the KHL, and they sent him back to the MHL. The same was with Demidov last season, and he looked clearly frustrated for a few games. Demidov scored points like crazy even being frustrated, though.

What is going on here? Kid had the highest PPG 16 year-old season ever in the MHL last season (granted - late birthdates like Michkov and Demidov were 15 for half their equivalent seasons).

Even if you want to fade him for the NHL draft, say he’s not looking as good as last year or say he’s not KHL ready…this seems absolutely bonkers. Some sort of internal punishment or suspension?

100% something behavioural. Too talented to not be that.

Off to Muskegon soon?

"We are excited about the opportunity to add Ivan to our program." Said Lumberjacks President Steve Lowe. He continued "We expect Ivan to be here in the next couple of weeks after he competes for Team Russia at the end of the month. We still have several steps to go in order for Ivan to wear a Lumberjack uniform, but it does look promising."
