I had a conversation with Ryabkin back when he was sent down to juniors.
I said to him "How do you expect to be drafted if you don't play?" He replied "I'd rather sit here than in juniors." To which I replied "You're sitting here because you're not yet suitable (for the KHL), and there because you're not fulfilling the coaches requirements. In order to be drafted you have to be seen. It doesn't matter where you play, the MHL or VHL, you have to produce results. Nobody is going to draft you based on your past performances."
NHL teams are not gonna like this blurb. wonder if he falls and flyers can grab him with their second 1st rd pick. But this is pretty bad....the quote just screams ego. Hopefully he matures because the raw skill is there. The next Kirill Kabanov?
From an interview with Slava Kozlov, currently the assistant coach of Dynamo.
Вячеслав Козлов о Рябкине: «Он не готов к КХЛ – не только мое мнение, но всех тренеров. По скорости пока не успевает. Он сказал: «Я лучше здесь буду сидеть, чем в молодежке»
If you’re going to only look at D-1 production, then sure, compare Ryabkin to Michkov and Demidov all year. I’m personally looking at the playstyle and what parts of his game will translate to the next level. Svechkov was picked 19th and generally seen as a top-20 prospect in his draft class, precisely where Ryabkin has been trending all year. To me, there’s not a more fitting comparable.Svechkov didn't set the MHL on fire at 16 like Ryabkin did. So that analogy doesn't make sense. Nor does saying that Ryabkin may be below Limatov (a mid prospect with considerable limitations).
But it's damning for Ryabkin to be playing this badly. He's clearly not in a good head space. Hopefully he snaps out of it.

Ryabkin was considered a top5, top10 pick before and at the start of the seasonIf you’re going to only look at D-1 production, then sure, compare Ryabkin to Michkov and Demidov all year. I also said I could see someone favoring Limatov, not that it’s something I agree with personally. A big framed defenseman with the skillset he has is very intriguing, I’ve seen people have him in the first round - I don’t rate him that highly, I’m just saying that it’s not outlandish that people could end up liking him more.
Pretty high. Especially as he won't have an IIHF U18 to vault him back in scouts' good gracesWhat are the odds of him falling to the 2nd round
Obviously late 1st round picks are risky to some degree, but at this point of the season I think you'd have to be pretty risk seeking to take him there. You'd be betting weight/work concerns are unwarranted/corrected, and production fall is temporary/explainable. There's also (possibly more perceived than real) risk of being in Russia. Either way going to have fewer eyes on him than other prospects.
OTOH, maybe this isn't the deepest 1st round so despite 2-3 layers of risk, the upside case is too strong for some team.
What are the odds of him falling to the 2nd round
I believe you did not read all of the previous posts? If Ryabkin had the season he had last year this year, he'd be a top 12 pick. Falling out of the 1st round completely would be a significant fall. I'd project him to get drafted from 20th-30th. He plays center and had a very impressive d-1 season. There must be some sort of issue with him. Sick or injured is my guess
