C Easton Cowan - London Knights, OHL (2023, 28th, TOR)

Cowan will be a fine prospect and a good middle six guy in the NHL.

I hadn’t seen him play a lot before the tournament. He made some really bad plays that deserve criticism. Not sure if the selfishness is apart of him being a young guy or just trying to get something going for the team, but he’s probably gonna need to cut that out. And simplify his game at times. He’s probably a little overhyped being a Leafs prospect and a London Knight, but I don’t see any reason he won’t take his very evident skill and turn it into a good pro career.

How does Cowan not pass to his London teammate Bonk on this play, for an easy tap in.

I mean that play is going at full speed and he gets fed a pass on basically a breakaway. It looks a lot easier to make that pass in hindsight.
Not in the slightest. That pass was there to be made all day. His angle of attack, his shoulder angle, goalie positioning and Bonk's timing all make that pass a no brainer to execute.

Ahh ok, so you're just doing a bit. Carry on then.
I sympathize, really can't be easy being a Toronto sports fan. All that failure caught in 4K.

No, just telling it like it is. If you don’t like two Toronto sports channels talking about Toronto teams, don’t watch it then.

PS: It really is easy….we don’t have to deal with the Raptors or Blue Jays ending up in Memphis or Washington. ;)

Bonk's body language was pretty telling there as well.

Cowan didn't have a very good tournament and was feeling the pressure, that being said, I'm sure that he will be fine middle 6 NHLer.

As long as he understands and accepts his role as (imo) a bottom six energy guy, then he should have an nhl career. If he thinks he can play only a skill game then he will be in the AHL.

When will you realize the Toronto channels are TSN4 and SNO, I realize you’re young and new here, but try and do some research first.

The rest are REGIONAL, other than TSN 1 which is national. It’s not rocket science to figure out the channels dude, seems like everyone understands the difference between regional and national but you.

He’s the player face of back to back Canadian 5th place finishes. 10 games, 5 points. But it’ll all be forgotten if he has a solid nhl career.

Exactly, I think most people just don’t want to admit that the quality of Canadian hockey has clearly plateaued out.

Lots of hockey folks won’t admit that the sport reeks of elitism and nepotism in Canada. You need to be making 6 figures to be able to afford putting your child in hockey also.

Compare this to football (soccer) and basketball which is relatively affordable…there’s a reason Canada has been surging in these sports, and plateauing in hockey.

But this is a topic nobody wants to discuss openly yet it appears.

Pretty sure he suffered a concussion like 2 weeks before the tournament started , not sure he was in a very good shape to play this tournament.

This was not his game at this tournament , hes a pretty solid player in the ohl.

Solid? lol. He was arguably the best player in the O last year. Highest PPG in the league. Highest scorer in the league during the playoffs. Won a championship.

Solid ya

Pretty solid means arguably among the best ohl players.. I love easton cowan's game not sure what is your point

Probably because hockey is way cheaper everywhere else?

2 early exits in a junior tournament where most onlookers were questing management and coaching before games were even played don't relay the entirety of the canadian hockey scene, heck 3 of the top 4 picks this year might be from Canada.

Canada is still the team that everyone shoots for so that means something.

Canada is still the clear best at hockey. This team was missing Bedard and Celebrini, arguably the two best U20 players in the world by a decent chunk. Combine that with terrible roster decisions by the management and you get what we had.

Hockey is becoming less affordable and all that but thats an issue worldwide not just in Canada.

I dont think its due to Canada not producing talent its more to do with other Countries catching up

Of course they’re producing talent, but it’s not at the level they were before. Maybe in other parts of Canada it’s different, but in Ontario I’ve seen a huge shift towards football (soccer) and basketball. Hockey is struggling, not because nobody wants to play it, but because it’s literally unaffordable.

The number of youth hockey players in Canada has been declining. In 2021, Hockey Canada reported that 411,818 youths under 18 played hockey, which was a 22% drop from 13 years earlier.

In the United States, the number of youth hockey players has been growing. In 2022-23, the US had 387,910 registered.

The US has overtaken Canada now for the most number of registered hockey players by country.

Couldn’t even lead the team in goals which was 2 🤣, what a bum, congrats to Yager in leading team in scoring.
How many goals did Yager score? I'll wait for you to do the math of who had more goals.

Cheers! Enjoy another Saturday watching the Leafs!

Edit: Oh and Brayden Yager is a FANTASTIC player! Thank you for holding Easton Cowan to those standards, it will be tough but rewarding to try and keep up with great young players like that for him, or to strive higher!
