Looks very much so like a junior hockey player to me. Needs to add some professionalism to his game if he's going to be successful at the next level.

Most of the forwards for Canada have looked meh though.
Looked promising in Leafs camp but you’re not wrong . Hasn’t been displaying the same type of iq

It's just weird he got the red carpet, 1st line/PP1 treatment when he's like 17th in the OHL in PPG and doesn't have a crazy high draft pedigree.
I think its mainly on the returning player + double OHL MVP + 8 point mem cup angle.

That being said, as a Leaf fan I agree with the "he should be lower in the lineup" sentiment. Same thing with Minten last year. These are guys that should be middle of the lineup fan favourites (Leaf hate aside) with the way they play the game, but TC decides to go rogue and play them out of role. L2/3 (interchangeable realy) PK1, PP2

For those saying he should be playing lower in the lineup, less ice time etc.

Who else has produced well and shown more to be moved up in the lineup?

He's averaging like 16 minutes per game, which includes an OT game, not like he's out there non stop.

You can blame TSN for hyping a Toronto prospect to the moon and back. On a truly great team Canada, he’s a second or third liner.

He’s not Bedard or Celebrini or Marner or whoever else, his junior numbers also indicate as such. He’s more Max Domi than anything.
He looks like Domi

I think the general sentiment is a lot of the high end talent wasn't even included on this roster from the start

So to most it's more of a Hockey Canada/Coaching issue than anything?

I mean it's not like Cowan is some Hockey Canada darling being gifted ice time, or roster spots throughout his career. He never played U18, Hlinka etc.

Hockey Canada wants the U19s to continue to be a galvanizing tournament for Canadian minor/junior hockey. In order to do this they need the country’s media base to remain interested in the event and the best way of ensuring that is to make sure that the country’s largest fan base has a prospect playing a significant role on the team.

What an absolutely brain dead take.

I liked him a lot better last year. Thought his hockey IQ was a major asset, but he's been making so many bad decisions with the puck and has gotten way more flashy, at the expense of substance.

Starting to understand why his numbers have dropped this year for London.

He will be fine. Very bad penalty today and he is trying to do way too much but I think he will have a better rest of the tournament and this game will serve as a wake up call. Still a very skilled and valuable player to team Canada that will be a big piece of the team if they turn it around for the rest of the tournament.

His play stood out to me right from the start of the tournament and not in a good way.

Maybe he'll end up a fine player, but there's no reason for him getting the ice time/responsibilities he's being given.
Because they left the rest of the offensive options at home.

Who else are they going to give those minutes to? Pinelli? Cataford? Gauthier?
