Fought twice in the OHL last year. Not the type to shy away.





Think he should be back in the OHL next season. Rather he be more than ready than not quite ready when he plays in the NHL. I hope they dont jerk him around for the first half of the year with some NHL games/AHL conditioning stint then WJC. Personally hate when teams do that. If you know hes not going to be around come new year just send him back to his junior league.

It's clear he's going back to London. I'm sure he'll have some disappointment but it's not easy to make a team trying to win. He would've basically needed to be the best Leaf in preseason and force a tough decision which he wasn't. From his media interview after the game he's already accepted that. Time to go back, be the best player in the OHL and a leader for the World Juniors. Use the disappointment as fuel to improve, could still potentially join the team for the playoffs if things go his way.

On a side note, as someone who dealt with bad acne as a teenager, I always feel bad for him in interviews dealing with that. Shows he's still young as well I guess. Onward and upward kid.

Looked way worse for the other guy. His head didn’t snap back, or twist or hit the ice. He seemed to be full conscious.

Hope both are ok
 
I think the other guy just got hurt by his stick during the impact but maybe Im seeing it wrong ?

They went head-to-head; both could easily have a concussion and/or whiplash. Freeze frame at impact is not pretty.

They're both concussed for sure

Edit: I don't think I used the right word but they both for sure have concussions after that collision. The speed it happened at is kinda scary

It is a great accomplishment, either way. And it is still going.

A Pee wee player would lead the team with that ice time. No wonder team is playing so bad. We need stop playing guys that should dominate this tournament but don't. I would go as far as to say that every single forward on Team Canada has been better. Whether they contribute in other ways, that is fine. Least they contribute.

Cowen does nothing but make odd basic pass and shoots from everywhere. Clearly works in the OHL but not against harder competition or the NHL.

Tournaments like this mean very little taken on their own.

Guys like Nick Suzuki and Mikko Rantanen had questionable WJCs post-draft but still "turned out alright".

Nathan MacKinnon was under-utilized by Team Canada in his draft year and did not play great on a fourth-line as a result. Let's just say that this did not stop him from becoming the great NHL player that he is today.

We have tons of examples, and recent ones too, of players dominating the WJCs only to stumble and fail to make an impact at the NHL level.

So yeah, Cowan has been spoonfed a lot of icetime and hasn't been as good or as creative as he could've so far. But that also doesn't mean he has been bad at all. Same can be said of virtually the entire canadian WJC roster barring George.

And that's coming from a Montreal Canadiens fan that doesn't care for the Leafs. But it's important to give credit where it's due, and Easton Cowan is a good prospect that deserves most of the love/respect that he gets on the Leafs boards.

If he keeps playing with grit and showing progression, the Leafs will have made a shrewd move selecting Cowan in the late-first in 2023.
