Kadri tried to do the same thing in the NHL and was better at doing it than Cowan is. I still remember the media and coaches doing interviews at the time and a lot of people saying that Kadri needed to just sit down and shut up and learn how to play defense at the time and that there was no way he was ever going to be able to stickhandle through 4 guys in the NHL. I think that's a big part of why he was traded, and I thought it was stupid at the time, because he was still creating chances left right and center. Granted, that's all hearsay, but at any rate he did very much adapt his game and went on to be much more successful than he was with Toronto. Cowan won't need to adapt his game defensively, but like Kadri I do think he'll need to adapt his game offensively to succeed, and if he does he could be great.
Kadri had back to back 30 goal seasons with the Leafs. He wasn't traded because he was failing to produce. He was traded because he kept getting suspended in the playoffs when the Leafs needed him on the ice.

Like I said, it's just hearsay that it contributed to the trade, I just remember hearing that it did from various reports around the area and got the sense management wasn't happy with him. It's also not relevant to this thread, so let's just move on. There isn't a lot of similarities between the two anyways.

I think leaf fans have been pretty level headed with the expectations in this thread. The issue has been the outside noise coming in here and telling us this and that.

It’s also fun making a slightly exaggerated claim to see people who obsess over the Leafs lose their minds over it lmao

All the time jr is jr, Anthony Romani not even drafted yet . Give it some time and we shall see. He wasn't anything to write home about for Canada at Christmas . Dale Hunter plays his top players ton's of minutes which inflates stats.

Lot's of misses and 3rd/ 4th liners . Thanks

In the OHL draft or ECHL probably . He'll be a nice bottom 6 forward , tiny , probably hurt a lot. Too bad Leaf's didn't get the guy before Cowan (in draft), looks like a real solid top 6 forward , good size, skilled . His build and skills will translate well to a long career imo.
You mean the guy who just lost in the finals and watched Cowan score another 4 points on his way to MVP?

lol.

who?

Congrats to future Jeremy Bracco on the first OHL regular season MVP and playoffs MVP since Marner
Sam Gagner --> Jerry D'Migo --> Jeremey Bracco

The three comps for leafs (and gagner is used for other teams prospects that they dont like too lol) prospects who are super hyped and dominating in their D+1/D+2 years

Kadri, Marner, nylander and now Cowan getting the comp

Heck robertson got compared to Bracco and he still managed to be a 40ish pt 3rd liner as a 22 year old despite varioud seasons of development lost due to injuries and poor coaching from Keefe

Leafs drafting and developing has been insane since Dubas took over (Wes Clark really) and the only reason it is not recognized is because we haven't had any draft picks lol.

Sandin became an NHLer with us and got us the Cowan pick. Playing on Capitals top pair.
Liljegren solidly an NHL dman.
Robertson and Knies both established themselves as NHLers this year.
Minten and Cowan both looking like future NHLers.
Tons of late round picks making the NHL. Woll, Holmberg, Durzi, Grundstrom, etc

Guys like Grebenkin, Akhtyamov, Hirvonen, etc all looking like NHLers as well but too early to say. That is a lot of NHLers with few picks. They have basically hit every first or 2nd rounder they kept in past 5 years.

Absolutely amazing to know that all of those guys mentioned would be top 10 picks in each of their respective redrafts too :naughty:
