Been on the Marner train long before the playoffs. Strome is a good prospect, but when Marner is faster, smarter and a better 3 zone player I honestly don't care that Strome is 4 inches taller. Gotta go with the better player.

Certainly seems like Strome has taken a lot of shots over the course of the playoffs. In the end still one of the top prospects in the draft though and curious to see where he ends up going.

He looks so lethargic

Gives the puck away a ton. Created 2 two on ones against the last PP Erie had. Not winning any battles. Everyone on the ice looks better. Hard to believe this kid led the O in scoring. I wonder if he is injured because he looks terrible.

He does look a step slower. No sense of urgency or intensity

I haven't seen enough of him during the year. At this rate I hope Arizona takes him so we can have Hanifin

Looking more and more like a player the Leafs shouldn't use a top 5 pick on.
If this is the kind of player we get with such a pick, this is going to be a longer rebuild than I thought...

I've watched most of the games against the Soo, and yeah, he is very largely invisible. His liberates are mostly carrying the play. He got a couple secondary assists off some McDavid passes on the PP. That's it.

Ok Thanks.

Hanifin or Marner it is. I have a conclusion

Dylan Strome is looking more like he has a ceiling of being a good second line center in the NHL. I'd be fine with the Leafs taking him, but IMO there are much better players available at the #4 spot. I'd rather the Leafs take any one of Marner, Crouse, Provorov, Hanifin, or Barzal before they even consider taking Strome.

I think even 2C would have to be something he'd reach in time with lots of hard work.

IMO, to make a Leafs comparison, Nazem Kadri was far more of a standout when I watched him in his draft year.

Lol people are finally realizing how overrated he is.

Hanifin and Marner are on a tier above Strome. Always have been.

I always thought strome was super over rated but I do think he's playing injured possibly. As overrated as I thought he was hes still a good prospect and I'd have him in my top 6 still, just like you said though, not in the same tier as marner or hanifin. Can see a team choosing him though cause of his size

People are railing too hard against the guy. He's 6'3 and looks like bambi on ice, give him time to grow into his frame, even when he had good games I thought he wasn't fully comfortable in his body yet. Once he starts adding strength and starts physically maturing he will look a lot different I suspect.

People automatically think you need elite speed to put up points in the NHL. In reality he will be able to cycle until his line gets a chance even strength. The guy has amazing playmaking ability and a shot like his brother. He will not bust, he may end up a 2nd line center however.

Some of the comments and reactions here are pretty hilarious

Everyone knew coming into this series Strome's biggest problem is foot speed and he would struggle against a very fast and deep SSM team. And that's exactly what happened, and people start railing on him as "over rated" "lucky to be a 2C"

The kid just turned 18 two months, and from what I've seen in person he can't weigh more than 185, at 6'3". He has a lot of growing left to do, filling into his frame, and obviously his skating needs to improve. I've posted statistics on here that have shown he doesn't get carried by McDavid and he's not a PP specialist.

Now I do personally have him at #5 behind Marner and Hanifin, suggesting that he's not close to those two and that he will bust is pretty ridiculous.

This is pretty much how I feel. His playoffs have been average to below average. However it's impossible to ignore his regular season success. Like I've said before. Strome is still a top 5 pick. However he is behind Marner/Hanifin. It sucks that Strome is still having his game dissected because of how far the Otters are going in the playoffs compared to Marner who won't be under the same scrutiny.

I do believe though that Strome needs to show he can play better. Strome is being outplayed by the younger DeBrincat right now. Strome has the perfect chance to get back into the game and make himself look better. The Battalion and Generals don't play like the Hounds. Those two teams don't have the same offense as the Hounds. The next series will be more to Strome's speed.

I'm pretty sure Strome is hurt.
For anyone that says this (not singling you out) has he been faster prior to these playoffs? I get the impression reading the posts here that everyone has just started watching him play recently.

When was the last time a player with Strome's size and offensive production failed to live up to his potential.

It happens. Big body centers like him NEED time. A lot of time. I'm talking the full CHL and then a couple years in the AHL.

Drasiaitl and Grigorenko are proof. They may be physically ready (basically big enough) but they need time to adjust.

He looks slightly slower and less quicker to react to me. May be a minor injury, may just be the wear and tear of the playoffs. He has played a lot of minutes.

Grigorenko has nowhere near the production of Strome and that was in the QMJHL.

I think it's his style of play that turn most people off when they watch him play. IMO Strome has a very bad habit of standing round waiting for the play to come to him. He seems to be always looking for the play to break out of his end of the ice, so he tends to play high (near or beyond his blue line) waiting for a quick breakout. He's too much of a perimeter player for my liking to be honest. He looks like a lazy player....he's a floater
