A top 3 pick from going on 3 years ago, in a stacked draft with guys like McDavid, Eichel, Marner, Werenski, Provorov, etc already established/establishing themselves as potential stars vs Strome who is still just figuring out the AHL.

I mean it's early to write him off yet but it's pretty obvious why people are having serious doubts about him.

Not saying Alex DeBrincat carried him in the OHL,but Alex DeBrincat carried him in the OHL :)

Seriously though, its too early to tell,i still believe the he can be a stellar NHL:er,
but at the moment it doesn't look good.

Definition of box score reading right there. Strome was key for Erie and DeBrincat.

Otherway around buddy, otherway around,Brinksy was the superstar,Strome benefit from his brilliance.

Seen every single goal from both players OHL careers,Brinksy was the architect of most of his goals,
and i like to add,Brinksy had his best season without Strome.

Strome,Raddysh,Maksimovich,Foegele,Lodnia...all of these players benefit,tons
while playing in the same line with Brinksy.

Strome is good and i think he can still make it but, like i said before, doesn't look good

I spoke too soon.

10pts in 6gp in AHL. 3primary apples tonight to go w/his 6 shots.

And +10!

All this kid does is produce, everywhere. 10 points in his first 6 AHL games is really impressive. People writing him off because he was quiet in his 9 NHL games are going to look silly.

Is DeBrincat carrying him to 10 points in his first 6 AHL games?

Some of these comments are so silly. A 20 year old center scoring 10 points in 6 AHL games is “not looking so good”? A 20 year old center scoring 10 points in 6 AHL games is “figuring [the AHL] out”? Give your head a shake guys.

Felt it was coming, he can't keep up speed-wise and they weren't comfortable giving him consistent ice time. Hopefully, for the Coyotes sake, he can grow his game in Tuscon.

Is that a general consensus ?

His draft class ... he's the only guy in the top 10 with under 40 games played. Maybe he just needs more time.

Doubters should really just watch a stream of one of his games. His apparent flaws that are continually tossed around here just really aren't existent anymore. Namely, his skating isn't holding him back whatsoever; I really can't emphasize enough how while it's not a strength, it's really not an issue, either. In his first real exposure to grown men with enough ice time to settle in, he's shown a promising mixture of calmness, all-around effort, and offensive dominance.

I really have to wonder if things might not have turned out directly antiparallel had Strome been the one receiving 20 minutes a game on the first line, right off the bat, while Keller received 10 minutes a game on the third line.

Hopefully, we'll soon see what they can do together.

Probably good for him to stay away from the abomination of a season the Coyotes are having, even if he would've have been ready.

His long term survival in the speedy NHL is still a question mark even if he goes up and produces some.

That's cool and all, but Teemu Pulkkinen produces in AHL too. The real challenge for him is actually making an impact in NHL specifically, and the truth is that many others from his draft class even drafted before him have accomplished far more in NHL than he has.

I would assume he won't get any NHL time until next season and that's when he really should be able to have an impact.

What a terrible qualifier. He looks like Robbie Schremp 2.0. #Bust

My big issue with Strome is that I think people act like he's done a lot to increase his probability of busting, and I just don't see that. I think people are looking at 9 quiet NHL games and drawing conclusions about a high end talent too early.

Look at the resume since being drafted:

2015-16 - 111 points in 56 games in the OHL and 21 points in 13 playoff games

2016-17 - 75 points in 35 games in the OHL and 32 points in 22 playoff games, leading his team to the Mem Cup

2017-18 - 10 points in his first 6 AHL games

He has produced, massively, everywhere he's been sent by Arizona, and yet because he hasn't made his mark in the NHL by the start of his age-20 season, the word bust is thrown around every time he comes up in discussion.

Obviously he could bust. That's a possibility for anyone who hasn't proven himself yet, but given his production everywhere he's played, I think he deserves a few NHL seasons before we assume that his elite skills won't translate.

AHL is a league where you can make sloooooooooooooooow decisions and be successful. PPG at 20 years old is a great sign and bodes well for progression. However the NHL is a much faster game and it is a big jump. Keller would be destroying that league IMO - 2.5pts per game I suspect.

The problem with Strome is this: He currently lacks compete, as was witnessed at the World Juniors as well as his few cups of tea in the NHL. He may have those supposed elite skills, but they may simply be elite junior skills, and nothing else. The kid needs to show that WANTS to be in the NHL, not that he DESERVES to be there. Now, I have not heard anything about attitude issues, so that is a positive thing. If he gets that pro level of urgency into his game, then he could be something. But until then, he's AHL all-star material and nothing much else.

Who was the last player to put up 2.5 PPG in the AHL?

Very inaccurate statement.... 2.5 PPG ? In NHL 18 maybe...
